Endless installation

I bought my Wolfenstein: The New Order PC version, and I installed it. This process took me more than an hour, using the four discs and following all the instructions. But when Steam said the installation was finished, it started a download of... 41Gb! I don´t know why do I have to wait all this time to play when I had already installed the game with the DVD version. Can anyone help me, please?

When I bought the game through Steam it took like 3 to 4 hours. The GB file was like 40-45 GB for me so yeah it's pretty large file for one game. I had to be really patient. Just wait it out and let it instal is all I can really tell you, I think when you installed it you were putting it onto your PC and now you're actually installing the game content. Like when I finished my installation I also verified the game files and game cache to make sure the game has all the things it needs, so I ended up waiting like 4 hours and a half but I was doing other things while waiting. Just relax and take it easy I'm more then sure it'll work just need to instal it.

I bought the retail version of the game and installed it earlier today. It took a little bit over an hour to install from the four dual layer DVDs. When it was done, I had installed maybe a little bit under 30 GBs, and then Steam began downloading the remainder. Steam said that it was downloading a file about a little over 41GB in size, but the download counter had started at 30GB ( the 30 GB that I had already installed from the retail copy disks ). By the time the 41GB file had finished, I had only downloaded about 12GB from steam.

pablogan4, did Steam actually download a 41GB file? Or was the just the final size of the game after installing the bulk of it from the retail disks and then the remainder from Steam?

Thank you so much for your comments, gonzalez.andy80 & Monkey Farmer. Yes, as you said, it started downloading at 30 Gb, so it must be the extra files you said.

Got this on disc for my birthday, an hour off the DVD's to install now a 1hr 30min patch... Two and a half hours to instal a game that once finished is a waste of disc space... bad show.

Unnaceptable. I bought the retail game, 4 dvd's, and on startup? Steam. Oh great. So now I'm tied into steam for this which I didn't know. Fine, I start the install. After a bunch of stupid crap now it's downloading the 40+ GB of data. Huh? I have FOUR DVD's I can install from why would I ever want to dl 40GB's? This sucks. Steam wants to make MY MACHINE a game console, -AND- now I'm having to wait HOURS just to install a stupid game that it wants to dl but yet I have the FOUR DVD's to install from! FAIL. PATHETIC. absolutely disgusting.

Oh, that's fantastic. So now it want's disc2. Any audible notifier? Nope. Ok, guess I get to sit around and babysit my PC just to change discs when I obvously don't have anything better to do. I cannot more highly state how I seriously unhappy I am about this. Thanks steam/bethesda.

I'll ask again- I have FOUR DVD's!?!?! Why am I downloading GB's of ANYTHING? disgusted.

Most of the game comes from the dvd's themsleves (around 30 GB'S?). The rest has to be downloaded off of steam, which depending on your download speed could take less than two hours or several hours.

I have also installed the discs and played the game. For some reason my games were wiped of PC. The Game is now back in my Library. But I can not play it as it is Downloading. It has already been downloading for over 3 hours, and it says it will take another 16 hours and three minuets to complete. Is this some Record?...

Yeah, I installed the game from the discs, only to be told there's another 20 gb left to download, which thanks to the crappy internet in Australia is 21 hours worth of download. Guess what game I'll be uninstalling?
