So, are they going to fix the texture pop-in?
Pretty sure everyone is running into the issue of textures "popping" into view, because it's an engine thing. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go anywhere at all in the game, and turn to one side. Doesn't have to be quick, even. Just turn. Do it a few times. Keep an eye on what your surroundings look like, turn, and notice the difference. You'll see objects with absurdly low-res textures, and after a moment, the actual texture will appear, and cause the object to look like it just "popped" out into the world. It's disgusting, and was apparently an issue in RAGE, which was released YEARS ago. Why the hell wasn't this fixed, and when can we expect Id to take responsibility for this and fix it?

I've tried to replicate and haven't been able to. I think it's just because I'm running it on a brand new rig with a 780ti.

No, it is fairly disgusting and he has every right to be upset with it. It's a fairly serious problem with the engine and by now, one would expect it to be fixed.

I don't think system specs make a difference. I'm running a 770 and the problem isn't common, but every once in a while it does happen, and persists for a bit. I had the exact same problem with my 560 ti when I was playing RAGE.

my specs are pretty normal i think for someone trying to run a game like this (i5 2500k/8gb 1600/gtx 570soc) I hardly notice any pop in, very occasional, gfx setting are custom, I'd say around the high mark.

I never see pop in.

There were some tweaks in Rage that you could configure so it only loaded 4k/8k textures and you could change how it loaded. The problem is the virtual texturing is loading into the game based on your pc, so slow computer will most likely see the pop-in texture a lot.
One fix is to set the FOV to 100, no idea why the pop-in is less with this setting.

But thanks to Betshesda/ID, the settings are locked and some tweaks from Rage aren't supported here.

I dont think widening your fov will help, maybe narrowing would be better lol, or lowering your sensitivity so you don't turn as fast :)

It fixed my issue with the game and you don't really need to turn fast to see the issues. Seen entire building turn into giant sponges for 1-2 seconds and then be normal again.

actually widening your fov prob would be good, means more is streamed in at a given time.

How can you /not/ see the texture pop? Are you blind or something? It's pretty obvious, even for people that don't normally notice it, like me. I'm running this thing with an overclocked GTX 750 TI.

Because I'm not getting any?

It's caused by the megatexture tech and I'm fairly sure it's unavoidable or they would have eliminated it with this later version of the engine. The texture cache settings can reduce it but that uses more video memory.

I don't know how likely it is that they will fix it. I have a 770 4gb card and it happens every once in a while.

Every time I see it, I think "well that's totally the rage engine."

If this problem is just inherit with id tech 5, I would not expect them to be able to easily fix it.

That's not to say that it sucks if they don't end up doing anything about it, but it's totally possible it would take too many resources to patch.

Set Field of View option in menu (FoV) to max 100 - it helps a little as textures seems to "pop in - load in higher detail " only when you turn to them from another view (ie. you are facing forward, then turn left/right/back and see different section of view) .
So the wider the FoV the better as more textures will be seen, and less to pop in.
[Gash, sorry for my english, i hope anyone understood] ;)))) ].

It can help to modify a .cfg file for New Order too, this game is like Doom - Quake - highly moddable in terms of engine and graphics, can't wait for some mods like Sikk mods for Doom 3 and Q4.

Any chance you could tell me what you have the FoV set to, and what GPU you're running with?

Edit: Whoops, missed your post about using a 780 TI. I'm not sure if the GPU is the only thing affecting the texture pop-in, though. I'm using the default FoV, which might be making it look worse. Less textures onscreen than if I had it set higher, so the engine feels the need to not actually load them.

I didn't say it wasn't disgusting. I said it's only disgusting if your specs are lacking or you're an extremely butthurt gamer, which seems to be the case for you.

My specs aren't lacking, and I'm not "an extremely butthurt gamer." There's not a damn thing wrong with expecting a AAA-priced game to look like a AAA game, and not have this crap:

http://gfycat.com/AgilePerkyIberianmidwifetoad (Yes, gfycat links are supposed to look like that.)

It's a .gif of what the texture pop-in looks like. Maybe you're just not noticing it, or maybe there's something with the FoV or other config options that I don't have exactly like you. Either way, you need to quit referring to people as being "butthurt," just because they disagree with you. That's not how debates work, at least among civilized human beings. If you're not going to be civil, you shouldn't post in this thread again. If you keep insulting people, I'll have to report you for it.

The fact remains that this is absolutely disgusting, considering what Id and Bethesda are charging for this game. When you charge full-retail price for a game, there should NOT be crap like this going on, ESPECIALLY when the same damn thing was happening three years ago, in the previous game that Id developed.
