ESDF Key Bindings and Chapter 10 Tunnel Glider
The first thing I do for every FPS game is to remap all the keys to ESDF control so I can use "A" to crouch....Everything's find until chapter 10. Everytime I press E I exit the Tunnel Glider.

Perhaps E is also still bound to use?

No, I already bound use to G. I press g to pick up items, open door, etc.

It is a bug, but I find a way to workaround....

Go to \Steam\steamapps\common\Wolfenstein.The.New.Order\base and open:

default.cfg

I change all the defaulf key mapping in that file, and map all "_use" to "g".

Then open the game, In kep mapping option, click reset to default to load the setting in default.cfg

Now I can press E to forward Tunnel Glider and G to exit. =D

This worked Marvin (I do the same thing, damn the usb keyboard limitations that force devs to use WASD), I have to think it is a bug, as the "default.cfg" has a section for the tunnel glider which must somehow be overriding some of our controls.

Didn't work for me :( I had to reconfigure my controls for that section, not the end of the world but still...seriously? Pretty basic stuff here.

Thanks for this thread.. I hate the fact that for some reason dev's keep FORCING wasd on us.. its an OUTDATED concept, and unfortunatley it was perpetuated by ID software (i'm looking at you carmack). ESDF is so much more sensible, and no one i've proposed the key set up to has been able to find a solid reason NOT to use it. Keep on rockin guys!

nostromo speed pad ftw.

nobody is forcing wasd on you. They use wasd because that is by far the most common layout that people use. If they were FORCING you to use it, they would NOT let you rebind the keys....

Margalus, we're talking about a bug that definatly affects EDSF. Do you se EDSF? Try it on the tunnel glider stage and let me know how it goes for you.

that's not the point. Jinx said developers are "FORCING wasd on us". that is what I was responding to. Nobody is forcing wasd on anybody. There may be a bug as you say, but they are not purposely forcing you to use wasd.

Most USB Keyboards cannot every key press combo (look it up). Devs have to account for the fact that many people have a crappy keyboard, hence WASD. There IS a bug.

This issue still exists. E is hardcoded to exit the tunnel glider.

It's also done differently from the rest of the controls, since it's QWERTY position E on the keyboard regardless of layout, even though the key bindings the game uses otherwise are keyboard layout dependent. Probably some initial test code that got accidentally left in that uses a scancode based method directly.

EDIT: I'm probably wrong with my guess if others have found it in the config files. I guess the defaults are based on position instead of letter and get translated to the users layout for the settings... and when changing the use key in the settings it just forgets to map it back to this one action, so setting it manually in the defaults file works.

I found a handy workaround that saves quitting and editing the config file.

I just held down W when getting in and pressed E to move forward, after that I could release W and as long as I kept holding down E, I didn't get out again.

It's not perfect because you have to do it that way every time you want to enter the glider, but I felt it was faster than exiting the game

Hazmat, you were on the right track but it's even simpler.

Hold E when you enter the tunnel glider.
