Wolfenstein: The New Order

Intel Core i7 actually required?
I was about to get the game when I noticed that the game apparently needs an Intel core I7. This was quite surprising to me, and now I am wondering if I can run the game. I have an intel core i5 3570k, 660 ti, and 8 gigs of ram. Do you guys think I will be ok?

You should be fine. I hope.

The thing about system requirements is that they are basically recommended requirements. You'll get the best performance out of an i7 (obviously) but the game is still playable on other hardware. I'm sure there's a list of compatible CPU/GPUs for this game. As long as you're not running on a potato, you should be fine.

Just note that the game has some issues at times.

This are the requirements done by a german magazine:

1920x1080, Low details

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5750 oder Nvidia Geforce GTX 285
CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 450 oder Intel Core Duo E7400
RAM: 2,0 GByte
HDD: 44 GByte

1920x1080, High details

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5870 oder Nvidia Geforce GTX 560
CPU: AMD Phenom X4 965 oder Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650
RAM: 4,0 GByte
HDD: 44 GByte

There is also a nice chart you might want to look at.

I have a similar system to yours only an I5 4670K. Game runs without any problem, so far.

Games needs SSD, no point having fast hardware and a slow HDD, I doubt even velocirapter raid can keep up.

I have an i5-3470 and it works fine.

I'm playing from an HDD and getting constant 60FPS...

You should always remember this: There no different between an i5 and i7. This is the truth. If you don't believe me, look it up.

I have the same processor you do, but I'm running a GTX 780 Ti and have 16 GB of RAM; my system's crushing the life out of this game with all the dials turned up to ten (with the exception of screenspace reflections, which seems to cause problems for a lot of folks) at 1920x1080 resolution, and my GTX has never gotten over 52 degrees C.

You should be just fine.

By the way, I was running a 660 Ti before my brother in law purchased the 780 for me as a wedding gift (yeah, he's kinda awesome; it was a group present from him, his fiancee and two of their close friends that attended the wedding)--that card was a beast for the cost. A damn fine piece of technology.

Untrue. i7 can create four additional "virtual" cores on top of the four physical cores already in the processor; the i5 lacks true hyperthreading capability, and the distinction in processing speeds (relative to heavy multitasking loads) is pretty significant.

Hyperthreading's not really necessary for current games (I can get the new Thief up to about 95 FPS on max settings at 1080p, and it too asked for an i7 processor)--but it will be down the line, so to say there's no distinction is categorically dishonest.

I bet it sounds like a cat running on tin foil though, mechanical drives are so 1960's.

I'm running the game from an HDD, and hitting 60 FPS without appreciable dips.

So, hey, the game's set in the 60's, the tech is apparently "60's" (and as someone who was around when the first commercial HDDs became available--LOLNO. That would've been tape drives there, hoss)--I guess it fits?

I do want an SSD in the near future--but I'm lazy about migrating data, so it may be a while.

I have:

Phenom II x6 1100T at 3.8ghz
NVidia 570GT - Not overclocked (Driver 314.07)
and 1TB HDD (I don't even think it's 10,000RPM - I forget exactly its speed its been so long.)

The only thing I have to do is Enable the VT Compression and turn the Shadow Res to 4k instead of 8k. Everything else is Enabled and set to High.

Game runs flawlessly and looks great.
