Help Fergus mission bugged

In the incinerator room I choose to save Fergus instead of Wyatt. When I regain control I cannot attack the armored soldier with the pipe at all. I've tried all possible angles. I've jumped up on both hospital beds on each side, I've tried to jump on top of the super soldier too. Is this a bug or is there some way to save Fergus that I haven't figured out yet? Anyone else have this problem. I swing and swing and swing away with my pipe from every angle until the event timer runs out and the room burns up. I'm stuck. Any suggestions? Thanks.

here at about 48 mins in the vid to see if you are doing it right (behind right away as soldier is bent over between the beds, it is not a direct confrontation, beat him silly kill type of battle.

You are not supposed to attack him - you should get a prompt [X] = Takedown (X may be Mouse 3 or something else depending on your setup).

You need to be standing behind him.

I do. The mouse reticle starts out white when not in range of bad guy. When I get close enough it turns to red and the Mouse3 Takedown option appears. I've tried quick mouse clicks for a regular melee attack and I've tried holding down the mouse button like you do when attempting a stealth knife kill. Neither seems to work.

Although, I watched the video above and I don't seem to get that special takedown icon. The one I see, as I mentioned, is more like the generic stealth knife kill option.

Sorry don't know what to tell you then. Did you check your key binds in the control options to see if they are ok. I do know that the pdf manual (PC) is completely wrong with regards to the default keys.
Also try to restart/replay the level (not last checkpoint save). It's a pain but maybe replaying the level from an earlier position will fix it.

I have issues with my middle mouse button (mouse 3) so I rebound the melee attack to f. Rebind the key and it should work.

I just walked up until the red dot appeared then pressed mouse scroll wheel down and short video played attacking with the long pipe shoved into his rear armor... then the fun begins jumping on 4 tables knocking out fire jets before the room ignites... then doing the electrical box wires to be blown out the portal.
