Turret weapons, how do I dismount them?

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to dismount the turret weapons. it says to "hold' them, but I cannot figure out what key does that, and it is not mentioned in the key bindings. Probably pretty obvious, but can someone tell me how to do this please.

Press 'E' to get off, hold 'E' to take the turret with you.

Well, that didn't work, that is just the "use" command, how do I remove the turret weapon from the mount and carry it around?
