How are the shotguns in this game?

I love shotguns. I love the sound of firing a shotgun, the recoil, the damage up close, the spread at the distance and even the reassuring clicking noise when you reload.

How are the shotguns in this game? Could I get through most of it using just shotguns and stealth? Doom 2 and Quake's shotgun are two of my favourite shotguns in any game, would it compare well?

Thanks, I've seen some videos with dual wielding shotguns, it looked good - just wanted to know if they were as good as they appeared to be.

The dual wield shot guns, especially with shrapnel loads, or one of each shrapnel and shot, is freakin awesome fragfestfun! BUT...they lack the same feel as the DOOM/Quake shottys. I know wut you mean. They had a rhythm to them. BOOM! ch-chik. BOOM! ch-chik. whilst strafing back n forth from corner cover. am I right? Sadly it wasnt there. Not for me anyways. The shrapnel loads kinda made up for it. Combined with dual wield. Good enuf. It will be fun.

Thank you, that pushed me into buying the game. Downloading now. Even half as good as Doom's shottie is plenty enough for me.

I love in-game shotguns as well. I wish someone made a video for youtube with demonstrations of various shotguns from games so we can look and see which ones are most awesome.

For example, one of the best orignal in game shotguns is the one in doom. The sound effects and the animation are great. Then look at that weird almost silent shotgun in Doom 3, that thing simply sucks

I always think about how people in those games jump and shoot a shotgun in the air. Seems if a person does not have their feet on the ground firmly they should get huge recoil and fly backward.

Didn't mind the shotgun from Doom 3, but yeah it was a bit lacking in comparison (Ghost was spot on about the rhythm that Doom shotgun had, it was music). Best is probably Brutal Doom or Flak Cannon from UT for me personally.

Nice to see other shotgun enthusiasts! It's the first thing I will jump to when I play a game, SP/MP both.

I was a little disappointed in the range of the shotgun in this game but dual wielding (and thus having 40 shots before a reload!) is totes worth it. There are some sections where you won't have access to it or ammo is scarce, but that hardly matters with how great the game is overall.

the shotguns in WNO are fine but if there is a thing that Rage did right its the shotgun, from sound to punch and design...equipped with those pops rockets...it was almost too much OP...but great fun...

I like the shotty and the alt fire mode. I wish you had more time with the old school shotty you get for a small amount of time in on of the early levels. Just a standard double barrel. Was loving that too!

marauder47, you have just inspired me to DL Rage back into my library and run it some more. Didnt pay much attention to the shotty. I know I used it lots. Was one of the 4. Double barrel before that. IF IRC it was sometime into the game before getting it. Like they finally realized it was better than AR's and SMG's. Guess the meh-ness of it all tainted the flavor. Dont get me wrong. I dont dislike Rage, I just dont love it. And yeah, pop rockets were a blast (pun intended)! Oh, I know wut it was - I ended up using the pistol with fat mamas more than anything. Left the shotty behind.

dude, give Rage another go and use that damn shotty, that and the double barreled... and yeah pistol + fat mamas = third shotty in the game...lol
loved Rage after all... played 3 times through, enjoyed the DLC also...
the combat is satisfying, the movement and shooting mechanics spot on, sure game has his flaws and I am not a fan of the car racing thing ... but Rage is not bad FPS, I mean those pure FPS section are great, it is just the car driving and pseudo openworld that was a bit off in my opinion...
the third time I went through I skipped driving and car racing as much as I could, the core FPS experience is great.

and if you think the game is too easy, just try the co-op missions alone.
that is really a treat alone....plus no driving or other ♥♥♥♥ there, just pure FPS gameplay.
