Absolutely not. This game is like a reebot of series, but I recommend to play forts the old blood cus it's prequel of TnO game

Oh! So should I start with The Old Blood so I can linearly get to the story? Do they tell/explain who the protagonist is and stuff like that?

It does not explain who is the protagonist , but story The old blood takes place in 1946 , -The New Order in 1960[ plus the old blood ends exactly in the moment , when The New order begins]

Nope. Like the other commenter I highly recommend playing The Old Blood first though.

I'd also recommend Return to Castle Wolfenstein, especially since the RealRTCW mod recently got a steam port.

It's not really connected to this game but still fun as hell

I second that, I also finished that one again for the gazillioned time,
nothing beats the classic.
but ontopic, if you prefer the story to be in order, play ToB 1st, or even RtCW before that.
with the RealRTCW mod it's really nice to play on modern systems imho

Yeah I'm really glad they brought the mod to Steam, probably the best way to play the game
