Funny little side note, I specifially went out of my way to purchase the new order for xobx one earlier today just so I could play the damn thing. Now I have to go back out of my way to return it haha
There's very few games that even bother with the graphics card exclusivity ♥♥♥♥.
I can tell you for a fact that iD Tech 5 wasn't geared towards any graphics card.
OpenGL is kind of hard to gear towards anything; it's all dependant on what version of OpenGL your GPU has and can handle. Some Nvidia cards have ♥♥♥♥ OGL support, some have it good, same with AMD.
Google "Wolfenstein The New Order Nvidia" and you'll see just as many Nvidia crash and low framerate reports as AMD. It's some silicone lottery ♥♥♥♥, as you'll also see some AMD guys running better than a 980 or 1080, and some lower than a 750ti.
There is no "gearing" really.. What tends ot happen is that nVidia has more software developers to go to the big game companies and work with them to help tweak the games to run well on nVidia cards via "Game Ready Drivers". It doesn't affect AMD but since AMD doesn't have the same amount of free people the optimizations can come slower since AMD works more after the games launch.
Yet ATI is an older GPU company than nVidia ( ATI was founded in 1985 and launched with the ATI Wonder Series while nVidia was founded in 1993 launching the NV1 in 1995).
However nVidia focuses mainly on GPUs while ATI was bought out by AMD and while the divisions focus is mainly GPUs their tech has been used to further AMDs APUs so they might have been a bit side tracked.
Plus nVidia puts more into R&D. In 2015 nVidia put $348 Million into R&D while AMD as a whole (everything not just GPUs) did $238 Million. Then there is Intel who put $2.99 Billion into R&D in 2015.
Did you bother to read the whole story? How is the AMD to blame or a bad card if the game ran flawlessly until the 4th episode???? It's a bug in compatibility or the game itself. It's not to do with the card of a certain brand. I'm sure there are similar situations with some cards from Nvidia. These things just happen.
Same thing here and same place. Searched the internet for solution and nothing has worked.
First solution in this post worked for me. Creating an exe from bat 32 bit launcher fixed the crashes.

Sometimes Steam will detect the exe is not genuine and will replace it so you'll have to recreate it but rest of the time it works.
Also a 480 owner and can confirm that this method works if you follow it word for word. Some people are skimming through and think they can just rename the .exe to the x32 and it'll work. It won't. You need to follow the instructions and create the .bat and recompile it to the .exe.
My only question is that once you complete the Prison stage, can you revert back to the original .exe and play through the rest of the game? I'm only reading about people getting stuck on chapter 4 the Prison stages.
In fact, sometimes Steam will detect the "fake" exe you generated and will download a new clean 64 bit exe which will make your game crash randomly until you use the fix again, even in the latter game.
So my advice if you're AMD, just use this fix and keep up with it.
This sucks but this is the only game I have issue with, so the issue is with the game itself, not the graphic card.
