The id Tech engine mega texture technology is really backwards and stupid.

All the wood and plastic in every id Tech 5 game looks like concrete, and that's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ problem.

All the textures are objectively blurry because of the megatexture technology that's implemented, every level uses one single texture, it's a huge texture, but it is also a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ map. The result is everything looks positively ♥♥♥♥. Just compare the textures to something like Far Cry 4 which came out in 2014 as well. Hell, compare everything to FC4, Dunia Engine beats id Tech 5 at every single damn game, and even that engine also sucks half of the time.

I happened to have recently built my first PC that only has 2TB HDD + 500GB SSD, and I would hate to open that box up and mess with anything if I don't have to.

If you can't see the blurry textures you are probably senile and have poor eye sight. "Not for me" is a perception of the fact that the textures are objectively low resolution, just go check the resolution you intolerable scum.

You said "part of the story" because all the concrete in the game has blinded you from seeing all the other different material, cloth, plastic, wood, again, your senile and unreliable perception.

Again, is your perception of the game's relative file size, if it's 200GB it sure as ♥♥♥♥ would matter to you if you only have 4TB, it's wrong to say size doesn't matter to you, because it does, only this one is not big enough to bother you yet.
