Ok, I was hoping I missed something but I guess not. This game seems like a step back. I wish bethesda would stop doing whatever they are doing with textures, they look horrible.
If they used MT's higher res than what the game uses now, it would be 100+ GB's.
That's great except this games textures look like something prior to 2010 which should not be the case. Look at a table, or a cement wall, it looks pixalated all to hell. I expect it to look like ♥♥♥♥ if I was on low settings but I'm on ultra. Not impressed at all. Also I beat the game on hard in less than 8 hours, to touch on the story a bit, it's as if every nazi stereo type was packed into this game, we had indescriminate civilian executions, skinning people alive, biological human experiments, but they forgot the soap myth. Oh well guess we can expect that for the next game. It was fun I guess in an over the top corny monty python kind of way, but on the surface the story is very shallow and the game seems rushed.
Edit: as a side note, look at occupied paris prior to 1945, then look at it now. Lol.

As others have said, idTech5's MegaTexturing technology.
Which is, actually, ahead of it's time. A feature of the engine that is held back by the technical limitations of GPU memory of today.
To give an idea, RAGE, id Software's first game to be released using this engine. The retail version is around 26 gigs in size.
The internal, uncompressed texture data for RAGE was over 1TB in size.
Also, it's very important to keep in mind, when John Carmack designed idTech5... he envisioned the engine only being used for the Xbox 360/PS3 era of games.
He never planned on it being used for the following generation of game systems.
Carmack was already working on idTech6 for the next generation, but after a falling out with Bethesda... he left.
id Software's current idTech6, used in DOOM, is vastly different from Carmack's original design for the engine.
Doom looks good and descent, I just expected the same when I purchased this game since it's only a year or two older. Was very dissapointed since I have a really good system and this game doesn't even make it flinch. Just have a look at a pencil on a desk to see what I mean, looks very trashy. Not impressed bethesda!
This game looks fantastic, and scales up with resolution selection. Is the complaint that they can see pixels on their 50+ inch monitor? Do you understand that you will always see some pixelation as a result of your gigantic monitor and/or your obscenely close viewing distance?
You just contradicted yourself, please don't troll. Obviously the games graphics are terrible. Yes I understand that I will always see pixaletion but this game's enviroment looks like it belongs to an early 2000 game, granted the player models are good but textures like arm badges, desks, walls, floors are all very blotchy and awful looking. I don't want to get off topic either but the games a.i. is garbage as well, enemies often get hung up on objects or stuck in corners, so much so that it becomes a strategy in later levels. I defeated the 2nd last boss by luring him into a corner where he became trapped, then simply spam naded him to death. Normal troops are defeated by simply corner camping or rockets. All in all I expect much more from a big company like i.d. and bethesda. The game is pretty amaturish.
I will upload a picture of half-life 1 walls compared to wolfenstein walls. You will see what I mean please give me a moment.
here is half-life 1 http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/20/19748/text_evolution.png
and here is wolfenstein http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=808716534
These games are almost 20 years apart yet halflife has textures that look almost better. Put them side by side on your screen, it really drives the point home. Very awful textures, almost hurts to look at.
That's because DOOM uses idTech6. Which uses a vastly different form of MegaTextures, now referred to as "Virtual Texturing".
It allows for much more detailed textures, as it doesn't blanket the entire map in a single, large texture.
The original version of MegaTextures used in RAGE, and this Wolf game uses static, baked in lightmaps. DOOM uses dynamic lighting and shadows, something MegaTexture doesn't support.
The new Virtual Textures does support it.
Also... that has ZERO to do with Bethesda.
id Software had already developed idTech5 before ZeniMax bought the company.
So basically idtech5 is worse than a modified quake2 engine. What the ♥♥♥♥? What are gaming companies upto these days? I would not release a product if my textures were this bad. As I said the player models look ok but the enviroment is worse than a 20 year old game. I have a new appreciation for half-life that's for sure. Not trying to kick a dead horse here but it's very surprising. I would even say that Alien: colonial marines looks better than this, which was released back in 2011. Whoever is to blame for this needs to take a hard look at their game compared to other titles. This game was originally 60 dollers in my country when it was released, I expect a game to have some sort of gimick that pulls me in and keeps me immersed for that price. I just can't name anything that is REALLY good about this game other than the franchise itself. It looks like a 20 year old game, the A.I. is buggy, and stupid. The story is corny and quite frankly pretty stupid. When I look at the review page it's just idiots saying "I LOVE KILLING ME SOME NAZIS" seriously what is wrong with people. This is a lack luster title and I expect better from id software, not something that is "good enough". Even doom3 was a flop because half-life 2 came out shortly after and blew it out of the water, not trying to fixate on half-life but it shines where as alot of these id titles look very poor and aged. As for bethesda, having to download texture packs for every fallout game because the textures are terrible is very telling. This game will be forgotten, simply because it's main focus was it's swiss cheese plot and it's terrible story, everything else about the game seemed to fall by the wayside. I'm not trying to be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or anything, I just love video games and think that this one isn't up to snuff.
I honestly don't appreciate how the nazis are portrayed in media and video games. They try to turn them into these boogey men or monsters. It's a lot more intellectual honest to understand that they were humans with their own motivations and to realize that every human being is capable of such cruelty. The sanctions placed on germany after ww1, the communist infiltration into government, and the strangle hold the banks placed on germany all led up to ww2. Any people would have reacted the same way if they saw their brothers and sisters being slaughtered in the feilds by soviets, or watching your mother starve to death because a loaf of bread cost 1000 dollars.
