Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Does hitler exist in this universe?
I just started replaying this recently and noticed that in all the news articles and notes, hitler is never referred to by name. It's always just "Fuhrer" or "Great Leader"or something similar. did someone else take over for hitler? Is this a hint about the sequel? Was this done to avoid controversy?

He does. Even in the first Wolfenstein there were pictures of him all over the place :)
I guess he got phased out over the years. Last time I saw his face in one of the Wolfenstein games was back in 2009.

I've asked myself the same. Apparently MachineGames Wolfenstein games have no issue including all actual symbols and organizations (e.g. Bund Deutscher Mädel) or places (Auschwitz is mentioned) and dates, but shy away from actual persons. This might very well be to avoid controversies and legal disputes.

Honestly, I don't really give two craps about him being in game or not. I do care if the swastika is in or not, because if it isn't I'm not really feeling like I'm killing nazis. That awful game franchise, call od duty, already left it out.

F that noise.

I'm pretty sure the other games aren't canon considering old blood was basically a remake of RTCW.

As Daddy NippleStank said, the old games are believed to no longer be cannon. Hitler most likely still is alive, but would be of age 70 durring the game.

He exists but I've noticed him or Himmler aren't mentioned much like in RTCW. There is occasional "Heil Hitl.r" and that's it.

He does. One level there is a city broadcast mentioning the celebration of the fuhrer's birthday. I think Machine Games mentioned he will make an appearance in person in the game after New Colossus.

Suprising how little of hitler is even in this game. Its all just a few mentions in flavour text.

I could be remembering this incorrectly, but aren't there hints in the game that some people think he's dead and the reich is keeping that info from the public?

damn shame, wouldn't mind a mecha-fuhrer appearance.

Might explain for example why in the hideout of the rebels there is a hierarchy of Nazis on the walls, with Hitler not to be found. Deathshead is on top.

The mission where you attack the space tower thingy, the resistance guy you are with in the car has to hand over his papers, it checks out and the guard says "heil hit ler", in responce so does the resistance fighter.

Very begining of the London Nautica mission (Where Bobby goes full ackbar and the stature falls at your feet) you and Bobby pass a check point and a gaurd says, "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" as you drive off.

In the Old Blood not far in there is an article about HItler hanging an assassin who was sent to kill him so he's definnitely a person who exists. My theory is this article is a lie, Hitler is dead, hence explaining his absence as a leader, though the lie explaining why he is still referred to. Admitting Der Fuhrer was successfully killed would be a tremendous blow to Nazi morale but the actual death of Hitler wasn't terribly important with Deathshead providing the Nazi war machine with it's new technology.
