Some people are saying that everyone from the first game will be returning, but it really does seem like cope at the moment.
It's already confirmed vets got cut.
Send me a source confirmation, please and thank you.
also, no I don't. this game looks way more polished so why would anyone be upset?

"What was your approach to selecting the roster this time? Any surprises you think fans won’t expect? Anyone NOT returning from the first Brawl?
This is probably one of the hardest decisions we made when we started to design the game — a lot of thought came into it. We looked a lot at the reaction on the roster of the first game, what were the more requested characters by the community and also what we can achieve with the vast list of amazing Nick characters, and of course we had Nick input as well.
There were a lot of options and possibilities, but we had to choose and we are very happy with the final roster.
Surprises? Yes! The funny thing is that from all the lists of possible characters the fans are making, none we have seen have guessed completely right. Just wait a bit and you will know who made it and who didn’t!"
Guess I won't be buying this around launch. Maybe when it goes on sale.
I mean to be fair, what vets are cut are not said, so technically they can still be in. Leaks don't actually deconfirm any characters either, but it's highly likely anyone we haven't seen in NASB 2 is cut.
It's also a poor thing to do to not support the game simply because they couldn't bring everyone back, it's just unreasonable in my opinion.
There is nothing unreasonable about my decision to not purchase this game on launch, because of their decision to exclude characters that I was hoping to play as.
After all, the game is supposed to be a sequel, and a sequel should add content over the first game, not remove it. Nobody liked it when Roy, Mewtwo, Pichu, Dr. Mario and Young Link were removed from Smash Bros Brawl, Nobody liked it when Ice Climbers, Wolf, Pokemon Trainer, and Snake were removed from Smash 4. It's just not fun for people who enjoyed those character mains to see them get axed. Individuals should always reserve the right to abstain from purchasing products for any reason ever, no matter how silly.
Besides I suggested that I would wait until the game goes on sale, and I'm not telling anyone else to not buy the game. I'm sure this game will be financially successful with or without out my immediate financial support.
Yea they didn't remove content, they rebuilt the system, so they started from scratch again.
And yea I don't know why you think pointing to how Smash Bros had to do it multiple times makes your argument more reasonable, it really doesn't. Most fighting games actually do cuts, the fact that Smash managed to bring everyone back in Ultimate was impressive given the sheer number of characters they brought back, especially given some of those characters they did not own the rights to, like Snake, which makes it harder to bring them back. Sakurai himself said he doesn't think they could do it again, and they probably won't. If you're not gunna play the next Smash simply because of the fact they will need to cut, that is going to be extremely silly.
Nobody wants characters cut, and no doubt these guys would have everyone back if they could but they can't, they don't have the budget or time to focus on that, it just is what it is there. If they did the same exact characters again with no newcomers, more people would not buy the game.
Supporting them though for the characters they do have that you do like would help them set this game as a proper series, have more money for the next game, and increase odds of the other characters returning via DLC like Smash or in the next game.
They replaced Helga with Gerald, and I think that one is whack to be fair (along with losing Hugh for those who've never gotten the first DLC), they really should have kept Helga and added Gertie imo. As for the turtles, it's because those two weren't in the last game, so it makes sense.
Pretty much every other cut makes sense. The turtles are swapped to give the other two turtles to shine. We lose Toph, but we gain Azula, and the game has a more keen focus on villains in this game probably for their story mode, thus Ember, Azula, Plankton as fighters.
Cat Dog probably the third biggest blow because we're losing the whole series but is a less popular series and we also got Beavers to replace them. Oblina I think you're still the only person to complain about that I've seen.
Lincoln we lost because I don't think most of the people who got NASB cared about the Loud House (despite it being a popular show, the audience that game hit was just different.) and Lucy is more likely the more popular of the two, or at least I'm presuming.
Sandy of course swapped out for Squidward (And also we get Plankton, bonus)
Shredder we lose, sure but I don't think he's missed much, plus supposedly he's a boss in the story mode.
And then Powdered Toast Man I think was the game's least popular character. Too deep a cut I guess.
Even Hugh "makes sense" I guess because we gained Jimmy but like eh, Hugh's the only vet I hope we get as DLC again, it's a shame I've missed out on playing that character ever.
And Helga's the only swap that feels weird, different from like losing Toph and Sandy; We're losing more like a Patrick or Korra with that one, she feels more representative of Hey Arnold than Gerald, but I guess at least Gerald looks cool as a fighter.
