Which is the best? Dirt 2? Dirt 3? or Dirt Showdown?

In my experience, DiRT Showdown is clearly the best. Graphics are amazing, the control scheme far exceeds that of the unrealistic oversteering/countersteering problems of DiRT 3 and most importantly, its PC version doesn't crash two out of every three launches like DiRT 3 does.

DiRT 3 is awful with a gaming wheel and suffers from an oversteering (with poor countersteering) design. DiRT Showdown is the opposite; perfect and realistic reactions to gaming wheel movements and simply outperforms DiRT 3 in almost every respect.

DiRT 3 also has a solid reputation for crashing and freezing. No, it's not my rig. I built this gaming rig just last year and I run more resource-intensive games without a problem. Most sessions in DiRT 3 soon result in "DiRT 3 has stopped responding" and requires good old Task Manager to close it. Is it Games For Windows Live? Is it DiRT 3's own coding? Who cares? It's a disaster in terms of performance.

my opinion: dirt 2 good ,dirt3 better ,dirt showdown......grrrrrrrrrrrr been unable to lauch since i got the game !

Dirt 2 is the best in terms of content and visuals and I find it the most entertaining and balanced. Dirt 3 has better graphics but the tracks seem quite bland and repetitive, the driving style in Dirt 3 is slightly more challenging than 2 and showdown is fun and looks very nice but the smallest game and far too easy. In my opinion Dirt 2 is the best, that's not to say you won't enjoy the others, they're all pretty good games and if you're looking for something a little more 'old school' then get showdown. Showdown I assume would be the most fun multiplayer as well - not tried the multiplayer yet. I've had no problem with any of the games and the only crash I have experienced is occasionaly when exiting dirt 2 it freezes and you have to close it manually, alt f4 normally suffices.

I disliked the presentation of Dirt 3. Seemed more condescending with the British narrators and those damn triangles. I will say that Dirt 3 racing was a lot of fun and the game never crashed once on me. Dirt 2 was a lot more fun with all the pre-race crowds surronding your trailer which gave a more laid back party atmosphere. If they do a Dirt 4, I hope they model it after Dirt 2.

Looks to me like Dirt 3 is a waste of money if people are having crash problems. I'll probably just get Showdown. It looks the best in terms of screenshot/videos. Have people noticed problems using the 360 controller with Dirt 3 instead of a wheel? That's what I have...

Dirt3 doesnt crash more than any other game can crash...
I played it for so many hours and my friends too
Never got any crash reported.
To the one who said it WASN'T his rig, it obviously was.
Not a defective but probably something driver related or the likes cause I've seen dirt3 work perfectly on different PC config

I have played all Codemaster Rally Titles beginning with the Original Colin McRae Rally. In terms of content - the first dirt was the best, in terms of presentation, the second dirt is the best. If you want an incomplete game with only 20% of content, dirt 3 is the right choice. Dirt Showdown is just a joke in my opinion. If you like challenging races at different locations with a whole bunch of different cars - dirt 2 ist the game for you!

The dirt 3 version you get at steam is just like a demo you have to pay for. For the DLC wich is available you have to pay about fourty bucks at all. So it's cheaper to buy the Dirt 3 Complete Edition on DVD for about 30 bucks at all.....

And I can't get my steam copy of Dirt Showdown running for more than four minutes in a row, than it crashes - and there are no fixes, that are working.

Had the same problem with Dirt 3, but got a workaround that keeps that game playable. And the graphics are not so much different from Dirt 2. There are only slight enhancements in the weather effects and brake lights.....

Personally i prefer Dirt 2 over Dirt 3, i didn't like the 'Grid' style menu on 3. I'm undecided to buy Showdown while it's sale.

Just want to comment on Dirt 3 steering wheel problem, you can fix it by reducing the steering deadzone in the option all the way to zero, then it worked well.

the first dirt was the best. it had its problems but definately dealt with the idea of speed alot better than dirt 2 and 3.
