There will be no descent here. none shall question it, rest easy comrade.
But i mean its a freakin kids game. There's no need for hardcore gatekeepers on an e rated game
Eh, sometimes they are fairly knowledgeable. They can provide specific quotes to support their inane opinions and such.
The real problem is that they know so many details about the books that they miss the forest for the trees. We all know how much Tolkien idealized the Hobbits and their peaceful country lifestyle. I think that he'd much prefer a cozy farming game to any of the more "lore accurate" violent action games we've seen over the years.
Lord of the Rings was one of the most beloved stories and a modern classic that had multiple awesome movies, games, and artwork made about it over the last few decades...and people are tired of seeing all of that essentially ruined by that same shoehorned ideology not even creeping - but flooding - into the IP that has a blatant disregard for the source material and the audience that loved it.
You want what you want? Make your own great stories up with your own ideology. If it's as great as you think it is it will stand on its own. Stop trying to co-opt what everyone else loves and ruin it in the process.
We're all wary of woke garbage perforating every single piece of media that comes out of the west today...because that's exactly what its doing. It ruined Marvel, it ruined LoTR with Rings of Power, it's ruined dozens of games, we don't want it to ruin even more.
Sir this is a children's game.
Children don't play PC games today, they are on mobile. The audience is older LOTR fans wanting a reaxing time, if I would bet.
Who will be sharing and playing it with their kids and they sure aren't going to be throwing these wild tangeants. This is a casual sim life game.
This game is also coming out on all consoles.
We know
Wokeness didn't ruin Marvel, bad writing did. Comic fans have always loved strong female characters. They just hate poorly written ones.
Haven't seen Rings of Power, so I can't speak to that, but the original film trilogy is still quite beloved despite it changing A LOT from the books, not the least of which being turning the majority of the narrative into an action-oriented war story. That's because even though the movies changed so much, they were still clearly made by those who loved the source material. I suspect the fate of this game will also rest on that point, not whether or or not you can customize your hobbit with a non-cannon skin tone.
Pretty much... you would think they would have something better to do...
Wokeness ruined Marvel because it’s a terrible ideology that literally begs for bad writing. “Use black girl magic” and a twerking she-hulk are bad writing..but they’re both included because woke is what put them in there.
Wokeness is also not “strong female characters”; don’t equate the two. Firefly wasn’t woke, it was well written. Aliens wasn’t woke, it was well written.
I mean, we agree, but the tone of your post makes it sound like we don't.
She hulk in the comics was always a 4th wall breaking more slice of life thing than the other marvel comics. The tv show nailed that well.
People throw the word "woke" around on to anything that they don't agree with. This forum is full of people acting all offended, and claiming there's a huge conspiracy to wreck all the things the love by adding PoC or pink shirts or whatever to the franchise that they love. But the truth is, that's always over-exaggerated nonsense, and the fact that you would even care that there's a brown-skinned person in the game or show and it somehow ruins the world... is laughable.
Here's the truth... four companies own various aspects to LOTR rights. These companies want to make money off of the rights they hold. Hopefully, they all love the source material and want to be mostly true to it... but if the game company chooses to add skin colors, hair styles, cosmetic pets or whatever to their game, it's to SELL MORE GAMES. There's nothing nefarious about it. It's $, it's not being worried that 1,300 people in Twitter will badmouth them. But hey, keep tilting at those windmills, people.
I actually wished that they leaned into that aspect of it more. Had they made the show a little more self-aware, they could have easily excused some of the badly written parts with a *wink wink* at the camera.
