2nd hero class slow to get

it takes quite a while to get a craft to lvl2 so i can unlock a 2nd class and thus create armor and more weapons.
feels too slow and just gathering and waiting is a litte dull.
maybe fastest with crafting only the expensive foods?

You receive more experience when creating higher quality items food and weapons, when crafting food adding extras can go a long way, just be careful not to gamble all your money away doing so. Crafting with seasoning is a great way to improve your food at low cost and will increase the chance of getting higher quality items. Once your innkeeper is higher level you can also push the other extras without too much risk of losing gold for crafting normal or bad items

Also when talking to the weapon master you have the option to train your current class. By pressing the list icon next to the X (remove class button), this cost 1 royal token and far less gold and can be done early into the game. Doing this will allow you to add new proficiencies to your current class (for example wear heavy armour).

At the start may be tricky to keep up with the resources to craft armours but once you get good managing your quests, you will be fine. Until then you can use the trader to buy a few resources every time he is in town while checking that the price doesn't spike too much.
