Yea, I was also dumbfounded at first and couldn't get it, but it's quite easy to do with Lightning perks (specifically on light attacks) or especially easy with Heavy Explosion perk that also applies burning which gives you 5-9 hits. Can be farmed consistently on Mother Treek as well.
Use low attack power weapons. Less damage means the mobs are up for longer and can be hit more before dying.
Emphasize weaker/quicker attacks rather than heavy attacks.
Use perks. As stated above there are a few that really help out a lot, some that help less. The 'extra hit per attack' and its upgraded 'extra 2 hits per attack' are the best. Charge (lightning status) upgrades can help. Projectiles every 3 hits can help. Explosion at 10-hit streak can help. Breaking terrain projectiles can be a bit of a help as well if you are using terrain hits to keep your hitstreak going as you reposition.
Movement speed perks are helpful for repositioning.
Try to take fewer perks that straight up increase damage without increasing hit streaks. Crit increases included. A bit counter intuitive for a 'win' run, but if you want to focus down the masteries I believe this is a good strategy.
The midboss at the first level with continually respawning lil pink turnip dudes can give you plenty of fodder. Rooms with lots of simple mobs are best, it might be worth focusing down problematic mobs first and then try for the hitstreak. When you happen across a room with lots of fodder, try to remember the hit streak is the goal.
Once you hit the 50 hit streak, drop the streak and start again if there are enough mobs still alive for another try. Anything over 50 doesn't improve the completion in any way.
I've just been messing around in the first world, so I don't know much about other equipment options that might help but it sounds like there are some.
-Use the first weapon you ever get
-Use the Bulbin Buddy helmet
-Go to the second area you get access to, the owl one
-Get to the miniboss
-Hit the minibosses enough that they spawn their healing sentry
-Do as many hits as you can on them and dodge when they are gonna attack, preferibly near them
-Bulbin Buddy's ability makes your dodge deal damage and this counts for the hitstreak
-When they get low on HP just run around avoiding them until their sentry heals them back up
-Go back to hitting them after they got enough health
It's hard, but not impossible.
Otherwise if nothing else works go to the bog area and find a room with a bunny spawner (Preferably two). Hazards from the roof spawn enemies infinitely, plus the spawners themselves dont stop until max enemies on screen.
