how do you actually make a build?

how do you customize your skills? so far i've not been able to see any customization aside from weapon swaps and the passive tree. and even then they have 2 useful skills at best.

is there any other sort of customization i'm not aware of?

You get 3 offhand items (a 4th at a level 60 rupture for belt slot) which will cast off your abilities.

Once you get your upgraded pet (a special level 45 rupture) you will see a ton more power from your skills. If you want a good place for beginner info (I am so still a beginner), I suggest looking at YT and Idodmg has some good tutorials. They are easy to follow and short.
