I also just found out that this game wipes your progress for no reason and kinda ruined my vibe while i was enjoying the game prior.
Why would i care about skins and mounts in a single player game? No one but myself will ever see it, that defeats the purpose of both those cosmetics.
I wouldn't go so far as to say this is "diverting critical resources" this IS a critical core fundamental of all single player games, if i was playing online with others then yes that would change the equation....
Hey Trill,
Thank you for being a part of the Dwarven Realms community, for playing the game and for sharing your thoughts with us. Your feedback is valuable, and we appreciate your candor.
Dwarven Realms is a passion project created by just two brothers in just a bit over a year, marking our journey as novice game developers striving to bring something different to the gaming world.
Regarding the progression wipes, we understand it can be a disruptive experience. As the game is in very early access, it undergoes substantial changes from season to season. While we plan to permanently support characters once the game is released, these wipes help us test and refine the game mechanics. TBH, the game just changes too much between seasons, theres no other way right now. We understand it's not for you, and TBH it's not for everyone.
We acknowledge that our current focus is on core ARPG players who enjoy seasonal mechanics (these are players that play seasons even in traditional ARPGs, and essentially wipe their characters every season). As we progress toward beta, we aim to introduce more varied league types to cater to different preferences, including permanent characters.
We appreciate your perspective on cosmetics. While they may not be everyone's cup of tea, they play a vital role in supporting the game's ongoing development. Many in our community enjoy them (even in single-player), and they contribute to keeping the lights on for our small team.
Your review (good or bad) helps us promote and improve the game, and we thank you for it. We're committed to enhancing the Dwarven Realms experience, and if there are any additional specific aspects you'd like us to address, please feel free to let us know.
Thank you again for being part of our community, playing the game and sharing your thoughts. We hope to see you in the future as the game stabilizes and offers more of the features you are looking for.
I appreciate the reply, hopefully i can enjoy the game again at a later date. Given multiplayer or persistent characters i could see this being an amazing experience for many more people like myself and friends.
A singleplayer game sold for a flat fee has no such need to keep players engaged; if I buy a game I usually play it and never come back to it and that's okay--not everything needs to be a live-service game with battle passes and all that crap. The technical reasoning behind seasons makes sense though--if the game changes frequently due to being in Early Access, wipes might make perfect sense.
My only reason for bringing this up is that this game looks quite interesting but I am a serial completionist who likes 100%ing games. I do have a life though so being forced to grind out level 500 or some other goal within an arbitrary period instead of being able to take a break is simply unpleasant for a singleplayer game. I will continue watching this game with great interest until its release in anticipation of permanent characters.
