Why No Permanent Characters in Dwarven Realms Seasons? Clarifying Our Approach
We've heard your concerns about needing permanent characters across seasons, and we appreciate the passion and loyalty you bring to our growing community. We want to shed light on our decision-making process and provide some insights into why, at this stage, permanent characters are not supported.

Prioritizing Ruthlessly:
Dwarven Realms is a labor of love crafted by a team of two, and our resources are precious. While we acknowledge that some ARPGs offer various game modes, including permanent character modes, the reality is that most players tend to embrace the fresh challenge of new seasons. We've looked at player behavior across the genre, and the majority tends to dive into new content rather than revisiting old characters. We must align with the preferences of the broader community while recognizing that individual tastes vary.

Constant Evolution and Early Development:
Dwarven Realms is not just in Early Access; it's more akin to an alpha stage. We're actively experimenting, iterating, and making groundbreaking changes. Maintaining backward compatibility for permanent characters becomes an intricate challenge when considering the dynamic shifts in the game's fundamentals. Our skill tree, items, zones, and even core mechanics are subject to frequent adjustments. In essence, an old character might not resemble its former self due to the constant evolution of the game.

Allocating Resources Effectively:
While supporting permanent characters is a feature we'd love to explore in the future, doing so at this early stage would divert critical resources from the game's core development. Every moment spent on maintaining backward compatibility is a moment not spent enhancing the game's content, fixing bugs, and implementing new features. Our current focus on innovation, stability, and engaging seasonal content will ultimately contribute to a richer gaming experience for everyone.

The Path Forward:
We understand that this decision might be frustrating for some players who enjoy permanent characters, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. As Dwarven Realms grows in size, stability, and complexity, we plan to revisit the idea of permanent modes. It's a journey, and your feedback is invaluable in shaping the game's future.

In the meantime, we encourage you to embrace the excitement of new seasons, relish the fresh challenges they bring, and join us in making Dwarven Realms an ever-evolving adventure.

Thank you for being an incredible part of our community.

Sincerely,
CraterMan and Elbebo

Hey Nefar, thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately yes, right now expect wipes at end of the seasons. We are planning to build a constant mode where characters persist however the game is in such early access, and we're making dramatic changes to the meta, we will continue wipes for the foreseeable future.

Wipes and no wipes are good! Wipes only...not good.

Game is great...
except for the wipes.
Found this game a few days ago, has interesting mechanics.
I like all the skill proc's that I saw in the trailer.

Agreed, watching closely and can't wait (or play) until I can have a persistent player. Meanwhile, you are doing awesome dev.

Discord is a complete mess when looking for information on anything. So I won't use it. And all the crap you have to do before you can even ask a question? NO THANKS

For me it's the art style. Or the mishmash of assets. Some assets look realistic, others are low polygon and it messes up with the game's overall art style. I can forgive a lot of things, like bad or simplistic graphics because of underhanded indie development or working for free, but such a mishmash of random assets isn't nice to look at.

Was about to buy this game until I saw the part about the wipes. Nope, not now...will flollow until this game is in a stable state. Not about the $, it's about my time.

Man, I wish that I knew this before I just bought it yesterday and spent 21.5 hours playing it straight before I found out! .... I didn't realize that you needed to hire a investigator for single player games, but I guess this is the "NEW" idea of a scumbag move for a cash grab!

The game follows the seasonal format that is typical of many ARPGs. While some large games also offer standard leagues allowing characters to persist indefinitely, it's common for players to begin anew each season.
While we plan to introduce a classic mode for character permanence, allowing a more relaxed pace without competition, it remains in our backlog due to resource constraints and player preferences. The simple truth is that most ARPG players love seasons and prefer them (We do, however, understand that it's not ALL).

This is a very long debate, and much bigger than dwarven realms I suggest reading more about it, and giving it a chance.

In D4 and PoE; you unlock cosmetics and keep your character from that season. In your game; it's an entire wipe of your progress/character, correct?

Right there is definitely a difference. Even if I never play my seasonal character again at least I have it.
