Report a translation problem
I did some poking around and this issue has been around since they last patched the game in April and as of yet remains unresolved by the developers. All other attempts at locating more information on it have turned up nothing. There is no hint at a cause and no inkling of a solution, the silence towards it on the official forums by Kalypso since it first cropped up is quite telling that this is a problem they have no idea how to fix.
I will contact Steam's support to see if there is anything they might be able to do, but if not I will be asking for a refund since the product I paid for does not work at all.
I logged the case with Kalypso who were very helpful and responsive.
It is likely to be a driver issue, which it was in my case.
First thing they would want you to do is to send in the dxdiag file and enable logging.
Under windows xp (and up), this is very easy to do.
Go to my documents, find a kalypso folder, there will be an airline tycoon 2 folder, go to the settings folder.
In that folder is a config.ini file, edit this with notepad and look for logging=0, change the 0 to 1.
Then restart the game and experience the error. Go back to the airline tycoon folder and you will see a log folder which has console.log file.
In my case what gave it away for me was that file ended with "init audio system", which gave me the hint to look for an updated sound driver.
After I did this the game loaded fine.
So things to look out for:
-update graphics card drivers.
-update directx
-update .net framework
-update sound card drivers.
Without the help of Kalypso support I would not have been able to get this back up and running.
There might not be any "official support" for win8, but as has been pointed out a lot of progams written to run on win7 should work. Have a look at updating the basics and take it from there.
Regards,
Niels
