The game is heavily censored, and I believe SE also did it's usual (recent) crap where they refuse to call people women, so is anyone gonna make a mod to remove the censorship and fix the intentionally mistranslated dialog?

"Heavily" is an overstatement. And most of the changes are in all versions/languages.

If the game's script is easy to edit someone will probably make a touch up of the weirder dialogue choices.

How is it an overstatement? They made a TON of changes to the game.

Also, just out of curiosity, I wonder why they went with Shifu (Mandarin) instead of Sifu (Cantonese) when Sifu is the more widely known use of Master because of all those old 70s / 80s Kung Fu movies being made in Cantonese.

The part where you said "heavily." A lot of the changes between versions are demonstrably not censorship. Most of the things you could classify as censorship are minor. Even among those, a lot of them are universal across all releases and whether they're a matter of creator choice or active censorship is subjective. Like, you could argue tequila being changed to another item is "censorship," but that's just one way of interpreting it. Given the original director/scenario writer oversaw the remake, it's just as easy to argue that the team just decided they wanted to do something different. "Less socially objectionable" is not automatically censorship: intent matters.

"The game is censored." is a reasonable statement. "Heavily censored" is disingenuous hyperbole.

That wasn't just it. They changed dialog as well instead of focusing on Geometry and zbuffer fixes you get when you use Unity. Nobody understands from a developer and technical prospective why they didn't use the Unity Engine with FF8 and Chrono Cross and soon to be Xenogears when FF9 remaster turned out so great because of them using the Unity Engine. A sincere waste of time on their part.

There's a Bounding into Comics article about it. I don't want to share the link cause I don't like the journal, but it should be easy to google.

I would say this game is "heavily censored". But my standards are pretty low. However, I do think people just saying "it's censored" has caused the public to think it's more censored than it is. It's one of those cases where the information is out there, but people don't look into it, because it is true that the game is "sanitized" and has "not-so-good localization choices" at the very least.

Also, dang, first I've heard about that aspect of Chrono Cross. That's pretty bad censorship. Now I have to find out if someone's restored that as well

From the original to the remake:
- Swearing was censored with fill-ins and bleeps.
- An event regarding Akira stealing Taeko's panties was changed to him stealing her money instead.

From Japanese to English there were many rewrites regarding anything that could be seen as even remotely sexist, eg. Lawless telling Taeko it's not a woman's place to butt in being rewritten, Shifu telling Lei that getting angry ruins her pretty face, female NPCs being vain or stupid being rewritten etc.
No graphical changes, just text censorship. There were also various other rewrites, but unrelated to censorship.

It's entirely possible that there were more instances of censorship not covered here too.
