Little symbol above Gourdlet's head?

Hi all; I'm brand new to the game, and I just called in my second Gourdlet. They've got a small flower symbol above their head. It is different from the little stem/plant that signifies the Gourdlet's maturity. It changes color with the Gourdlet. What does that symbol mean? Is it a good thing, or a bad thing?

*Edit to fix a typo and to include that I've since called more Gourdlets from the train, and the others have this same symbol, too. It seems to go away and come back on its own, but I haven't figured out what causes it.

I came here with the same question! My guy is just standing around with a flower symbol over his head and has stopped doing anything.

I think it is a way to allow the player to collect experience from the gourdlet,because it seems the experience is not automagically collected
