Axle, Wagon Wheel ETC vs repair kit ?

I am curies I have played three normal games now it seems like the Wagon wheel and axle those items from orginal game now all they do is act like a repair kit so why have them, they take up more space and cost more then the repair kit repair kit be used three times same as those other items that take up more space. I have never had a wagon wheel or anything bust just that silly mini game that they added where wagon inventory breacks and u have to repair the sqaures and you can use the wagon wheel or axels to so forth make three repairs or you can use repair tool box.

last four games I have played i never taken anything other than repair tool box. seems like no point in taking other things. one time it said i broke my wheel guy just went over and hit it with hammer and bingo was fixed with out even having a wheel just used repair tool box so really why have them in game ?

I don't remember this silly inventory mini game in original where your items would fall out constantly when squares broke.

I only remember there being a weight system for the wagons which I think makes sense because you stack things on top of each other in wagons.

not just next to each other.

I was just curies if any one else even bothers with those other items like I said i only use the repair kits that all i take ever.

I have had a wheel broke and i couldn't continue fortune someone came to help repair it so it wasn't game over.

I have not ran into this nether has my wife a axle broke but my guy just went out with hammer and hit it and it was fixed so.

seems like if you keep mini game wagon repaired it never really happens. ?

I was just playing original game via DOS box, it does seem that this new version is a lot lot easier than the original game from how many is dealt with, to the wagon repairs to even how death works.

its also missing warm clothing the original game had summer and winter clothing for the snow period in mountains, this is is really easy compared to that version.

I played the original four times now sense its free online, and I could hardly make it to fort kearny and laramie my 4th try I got to laramie..

this remake I almost got to organ on my first try, I mean it is really easy compared to original, its pretty much close to a cake walk in comparison.

I had a random event where someone needed a wagon wheel, and I also had a wheel break on my wagon that I was unable to repair and had to replace instead. So I used 2 of my 3 wheels that run.

maybe it is just pure random and just dosnt happen very often compared to the old game.

On my last run, I had a wheel break twice, an axle, and a tongue all break (5 different random events). This was at the end of the trip when my wagon was almost completely broken. I had to send one of my team out to search for materials to replace the broken parts every time it happened, because the game didn't offer me the choice to try to fix it. The wagon just collapsed and that was it.

After all of this breakage, all I had was a 2x2 box where my food was, and one of those spots was exposed. It would have been better for them to just split the food between the four of them and just walk the rest of the way without the wagon.

did you notice if most of the break downs just happend as the repairs in wagon got worse ?

I still have let to have any breack downs as along as i keep wagon fully repaired so i try to carry like almost full load of repair kits I try to keep at least five on hand at any time and i never do anything in game that takes up my time just travel I never even scavenge every game I got to my last leg to organ with no issue with wagon honestly.

I never help any one i never stop I never sleep i never rest I never do those fishing games or any of challenge stuff it just all sucks up your travel time.

as for clothing I only change clothes so far in my games like once per person, also never take coffee or anything elese I try not to other then food and repair kits and one change clothes for every one for when i get near end.

now I am not saying that a wagon wheel or so forth did not break but my people always just fix it with out part so, I am just saying I personally have never need those parts to fix those items.

the reason I zoom through the game is because i guess form what i have been told is if winter comes its auto death sense there no winter clothing in this version.

Yes. I ran out of repair kits after Fort Boise and the damage on my wagon just got worse and worse. At first I had the option to repair the broken parts, but as the damage built up the option to repair went away.

The only real way to test is to not take any repair kits or spare parts and see if breakdowns can happen earlier in the trail.

the wheel and axels that you buy repair the wagon also when u use them they give you three repairs just like tool box.

After testing, if you keep your wagon well repaired, the individual parts never break. The more damage your wagon sustains, the greater chance you have of an individual part breaking beyond repair and you will have to replace it.

Even at 100%, the random events will have your parts break, but they will always be salvageable. The carpentry skill will test if you can repair any of the damage, not the part itself. As your wagon gets damaged, you start getting the option to repair or replace the broken part.

So, by the time you need those parts to replace broken ones, the wagon is so damaged you don't have any room to carry them anyway.

I don't know if the hardest difficulty changes the way that works or not. I just tested on the normal difficulty. It could also just be random in how it decides what happens, too. Best bet is to just start out with as many repair kits as you can buy and keep your damage repaired.

kinda of wish they just did a remake of original and not tried to improve on it other then maybe adding more back history story to it about points along trails i mean.

I havent been really playing this game iv been playing original online for free more so now then this one sense i bought this one.

Always have your wagon oiled up and you really never need any of those 3 wagon parts as it will not break down while it's oiled. (at least that's what I think unless it's an extremely are occurance). Maybe have tool kits at most just incase the oil runs out.

When you use the oil, it prevents the wagon from breaking down for 3 days, I think? IIRC, there is a counter in the lower right hand so you'll see when it's run out.

The oil lasts 3 days. It's really good at the end when you're trying to get over the mountains. It seems like you get 2-3 damage twice per day there, especially on the hardest difficulty.

You'll never have enough to keep your wagon oiled the whole trip, though.

I mean it depends on RNG. If at every possible trade spot there is a chance people are trading for it. You can most definitely be oiled up for a good portion of the trip. I prioritize on getting oil whenever I can.
