Game won't start

I just bought this game and tried to load it up, and nothing loads up. It just says preparing game and then nothing happens. Please help

I had the same problem on my PC, on SteamDeck everything was fine. I started the game on SteamDeck and the game was installing some UE4 preredistributable C++ library files, the PC doesn't.

The file, that the SteamDeck was running, is in the games Steam-Directory, normally C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Oregon Trail\Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us and called UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe .

After the installation the game runs fine for me

I purchased this game for my daughter to play as she really enjoyed playing the original version and were disappointed to find that we also experienced the same issue as everyone else above where the Gameloft logo appears and does not go any further. I tried the suggestion that @PsyZo gave above, but no change.

I found another thread where @CyB0rGamR had suggested running the game in compatibility mode. That worked for us! Thought I would share the procedure here for others:

- Find the "TheOregonTrail_Win64_Shipping.exe" file within the install folder for the game. For us, that folder was C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Oregon Trail\TheOregonTrail\Binaries\Win64\ but your install may vary.
- Right click on TheOregonTrail_Win64_Shipping.exe and select Properties
- Click Compatibility tab across the top.
- Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" box and select "Windows 7" in the dropdown below.
- Click OK
- Try to launch the game

sadly i get some error msg about dx12 and it still will not run.

I'm on Windows11, didn't work on Win10 when i tried this last time.

"the orgeon trail is attemping to launch with optional parameters shown below" - then mentions theoregontrail -dx12, i hit OK and it just keeps adding the -dx12 part to the error msg.

if you go into the game properties and un-select run as administrator it will fix the dx12 not starting issue.

Just figured out that my anti-virus was blocking it. Might check and see if that is what's happening in your case.
