this is entirely incorrect, your stations can be connected to a complex regardless of facing as long as you are within the 25km distance (max for cck connections).
Stations = n
complex constuction kids needed for stationg = n - 1
Think of it like, each time you add a new station, you need to have a tube to connect it to the complex.
Is the station you are trying to connect >25km away from the complex hub? (silly question i know it is). Connect that station to another station and place/create a new complex hub in range(25km) of the existing hub. when finished connecting the stations to the hub(s) connect the hubs. *Warning* When connecting the hubs, the first hub you select will be kept the second hub you then connect to will be destroyed but all the stations connected to the hub(s) will now be in the one hub/plex. So be careful to pick the hub you want to keep first.
The complex hub only connects to anything within a 20km range of itself. Therefore you may be able to connect a station on extreme range (24.9km from complex hub for eg) and the station next to it is out of range (25.1km for eg) you do not connect the out of range station to the extreme range station. You are trying to link it to the hub and not the closest station. The hub however is out of range even though the plex is 'next to it'
when you waste your time killing the hub and reconnecting everything you are moving the hub closer to the stations that were previously out of range and putting them inside connection range, this is a waste of time, money and ccks. As described above just create a new plex tie in the loose stations then tie the plexes together.
TL:DR
Q: The quote at the top
A: Because you do not connect the station next to the complex, to the complex. You connect it to the complex hub and that is greater than 25km from the station
You sir are entirely wrong on this point in regards to a vanilla game. Every station connects to the complex hub. If any station is greater than 25km away from the complex hub you cannot connect it.
The workaround is described in my earlier post and is basically create a new complex hub within range of the one you are building (25km) and join the two complexes together after all the stations are connected.
This method becomes mandatory once you start building megaplexes (>100 stations) as the stations eventually end up having to be placed further and further away
my mistake is that cck's reach 25km editing previous posts to reflect the truth
