Verify both games, TC and AP. then install the no start steam, then the mods according to the instructions for the mod installation. Start a new game.....then if all works, do not run the verify game cache, as steam will reinstall all the files that it finds thats been changed.
this is a good video on how to set it up. If you need moree help please pm me on steam. it's pretty much the same process
well hard drive crash wiped out my game folder so starting from scratch once i get some time (wont be over the week end as thats when i work the longest hours :( )
my plan install albion prelude test it (no point testing terrain conflict as i wont be playing that one)
install xrm test it and if it works backup the folder
install the mods i want (inluding all the new ship addons will be cool to see tie fighters buzzing about etc :)
play or cry depending on result (i have cleared a corner to rock back and fourth muttering "why no you work" in )
you can't use other ship mods with XRM it won't be compatible, XRM adds it's own new ships.
You should copie your entire X3 folder and make a seconde or even 3rd copie of the game, so you don't have to reinstall everything if something goes wrong and use the no steam exe from egosoft web site http://www.egosoft.com/download/x3ap/bonus_en.php
you have to register the game before you can get acces to the download.
The no steam exe is essential if you want to launch the game from copied folder, without it you will always launch the default one.
install XRM and test it, if your computer freezes for 1 or 2 minutes when starting a new game that is normal and will happen only when starting new game it's because of all the scripts that are loaded. first try XRM and then if it works add other mods, if you see lots of mammoth classe TL ships that means that something went wrong.
there is a very good install intrusction on XRM mod page, you also should install all the recommanded mods for XRM that are listed on the page of the mod, like military base response revam, MARS (with the XRM compatibility file provided on the mod page) etc..
i had followed the instructions to the letter BUT i had also added other mods, (i did also disable those mods with the plugin manager at one point and also got the crash..... i think its just a cash of taking the time to sit down and set it all up right first time, its certainly not a game designed with mods in mind lol
not sure if they are such mods for X3 Albion prelude, for what I saw most star wars or star trek mods are very outdated and it is possible they won't even be compatible with the newest version of X3 AP, and they are high chances that they were made for X3 TC or X3 Reunion be sure they are compatible with the game you are running.
actually there is only one star wars mod I see (the author is still working on it in 2015 but the mod is in it's early Alpha version 0.1 and the author said he won't have much time to finish it...
though im assuming that once a ship is added to the game it will be used by the ai at random.... that may of course not be the case
I would probably upset a few people on my livestream if i was flying the uss voyager with a protection wing of viper mk2's and a star destroyer just a jump or two away on call if needed lol
that ofcourse wont stop me :)
OP you should at least look at SCS. It uninstalls really easily if you decide not to use it - providing you haven't used it to add any unique wares, but thast only matters if you actually want to play the savegame from whern you loaded the script. New games without the script loaded will not have any problem. The README in the SCS Zip tells you all about those switches.
Load SCS first then if your ships alter anything they'll most like break something that doesn't matter as you won't be using it.
Read up on the free Aran you can salvage as that can repair your other ships. You have ot find it and rescue it first though... can't have it too easy :)
