But the easiest way to to get a ship with area damage weapons like Flak and fly into large groups, increasing the chance just by having more possibilities. Anything shorter than a M6 wont do it though, Springblossom would be best as it has the speed to get away from anything should things get complicated. The Split Elefant (TL) is also used by many as cheap starter capital ship, with the benefit of being able to buy stations.

At 266m/s you'll be faster than anything the Xenon can throw at you and the weapons should give you a fighting chance against up to M6.The ammunition-based Energy-Bolt-Chainguns allow you to fire as long as your supply lasts, without draining the energy you need for the Plasma-Burst-Generators.
For getting the potentially captured Xenon L out of there, damaged, slow and without shields... Maybe a fast TM with a jumpdrive, like a Boa (ca. 150m/s). It will be all about timing and you luring the stronger enemies away then, but it can be done.
Both of the ships I named & their equipment are well affordable with 10 million credits.
As for the capping itself I can't be of much help. I tried everything I could think of and after destroying lots and lots of fighters not a single L "bailed" until I could afford a ship that could mount Flak Artillery Array.
Good luck and give 'em hell.
Yeah, with a M2 is in fact very easy, but he's starting the plot and has 10 million, he won't be getting a M2 any time soon as those beasts cost around 150 million or more to buy and gear up correctly.
A M7 with some Flak Artillery and some shields is a much more realistic approach. A Griffon Sentinel, which costs around 40 million will make the job and it's one of the best, if not the best antifighter M7 out there so you will probably want it in your fleet sooner or later. And it's a beast of a ship, I've been using it as my personal ship for a long time.
Lol nice. Just so you know, if you idle the game for 1 hour your trading and fighting ranks start dropping at a 2% rate each for every time of idling, real time, so with SETA it drops much faster.
I'm happy you go the Griffon route, its a great ship and you won't regret buying it, trust me :D You can literally fly it through clouds of enemy fighters and it will always end up victorious with just some minor shield scratches. Damn, I love that ship.
After buying and gearing it you will still have money to replace those ships you lost and still have money to get yourself some more freighters or whatever you like to buy.
Also: didn't know it was a carrier. Very cool! My first one. I have it carrying my pew-pew nova vanguard around just in case.
Guess it's good I'm carrying my fighter with me, also didn't know the Griffon can't dock with any of the smaller stations! No biggie.
Because it's very small and agile, it's half the size of any other M7 so you can dodge almost all anticapital fire. That's why it wins against any M7, including Xenon Q. And it can mount 8 Concussion Impulse Generators in front and cockpit turrets giving it some nice firepower.
