Factory complex consuming resources but never producing anything.
I've got a complex set up to produce some guns. Basically it's several food factories and two gun factories. Freighters purchase the energy & ore it requires. I noticed that the thing was a huge money sink so I decided to watch it. Sure enough, once the gun factories have the resources they need to start producing they consume them... and then do absolutely nothing. They've eating the resources and never making a single gun. Is this a known bug or did I manage to uniquely ♥♥♥♥ myself over a decade post-release?

And the station isn't selling the intermediate resources. I checked. I even turned off all intermediate resource trading entirely (no buying off of passing traders) to see if that would fix the issue.

Well, they finally started actually producing something with the resources they're consuming, at least. Only took about five hours. That's only to get started, mind you.
There is a delay when the factories at the bottom produce enough they fill their holds then middle factories and top tier depending on your complex. But until then if your base consumed product is energy cells then It will eat the hell out those before it starts to produce funds.
It was food & ore that were being consumed and nothing else in the complex uses them. I watched both drop several times without anything being done with them; the timers on the gun factories just reamined static. Fortunately they finally started producing guns shortly before I quit but it took several hours and a bit over a million credits worth of resources for them to finally kick in.

You can avoid factory hiccups by using a handy little utility 'Xadrian' (good for AP and TC). It'll tell you exactly what you need for a complex and where to get it. You've still got to pay for the stuff and train up your CAGs to manage the stations.

I don't use CAGs for complexes. I just use the old basic "buy ware for best price" command on their assigned transports. My complexes never need more than two outside resources and that handles it well enough. I set up in places where the products will sell themselves (unless it's for personal use like this, in which case I isolate them). Thanks for the suggestion, though. I might get the tool later. Right now I'm going without any mods to grab up those achievements.

It isn't a mod - I'm 33/33 several times over and LIVE for vanilla - even if I do stretch the meaning.
("EnhancedBriefings" for example).

Xadrian is a separate program - runs on any platform.. You pick the sector and factory type and run the complex wizard (last shortcut icon on the right) and it'll tell you what you need and where to go shopping. It's kinda like an intelligent shopping list.
Ohhh, alright. I thought it was one of the many in-game utilities that people have developed. Thanks once more.
