Usually Imake a mad dash around filling up my hold with missiles and selling them in the various stations by Barter. Some buyers wil lhappily swap your 1k value missile for 50k value in other goods.
For the above to work you need a freighter. So claim one of teh derelict Terran TS's in the nearest war sector. If you are lucky it will come with a 25MJ shelid and guns that you can use on your Ketana later. Meanwhile use it to store the Barter profitssss. Only claim if it is near the gates. Remove guns and valuable cargo before letting it run. if it is badly shot up and unlikly to make it take the sheild too.... it will boost your own sheild for now.
When you are Bartering dock the Ketasna and the TS at the stations. Move to the TS and transfer anything you need from the Ketana.
After a few trades you should have made enough to get some upgrades and once your Ketana can run through the war sectors without getting blown up .... run and explore to get the better upgrades you will need.
Things to consider:-
Any TS you use on auto WILL go through the War Sectors and get blown up by the faction youj are least freindly with! You can be freinds with both factions and STILL GET BLOWN UP!
Once you can open up the sectors West of your start, you can go South to get through without going through the war sectors. Trade is weak over there so keep local at first.
Keep repeating your salvage runs into the War Sectors as those TS's do make rich pickings :)
Use the cash to get Wraith Missiles and M/A-M Launchers for the Katana and boost the Terran rep. Get a Springblossom and max the speed to save the player sanity (note it cannot use Wraith Missiles so taking down bigger ships is alot harder). Go around shooting pirates and doing missions to get all races except the Argon to like you on the way to Getsu Fune. In Getsu Fune do any Fight missions offered by the equipment docks belonging to the other races. Also kill any Xenon entering the gate from the North (vs Qs and Ks you will regret it if you sold the Katana).
TL wise stick with the Split Elephant as a starter. Build a self sufficient factory complex in Savage Spur producing Space Fuel, Space Weed, Disintegrator Rifles, Low-yield Sidearms, Sunrise Flowers and SQUASH Mines as low prices. Soon even the Pirates and Yaki will have forgiven you.
Yes he would. I just realised I had not explained my transfer tactics well. You only transfer everything you need to the TS while you are Bartering - makes the process faster. Once you finish the trade put it all back and use the Ketana as your playership at all times. You will soon be able to buy the Springblossom and combined with the Ketana you can flit about making profitss at every station.
Learn which races are competing with each other and go to the space of one and kill their enemies once you have a Police Licence. Look out for the Dukes freighters. They often carry guns you can force them to drop and sell them on later. You can even make good freinds with the Argon over time [thought it won't stop them killing you in the War sectors if you are freindlier with terrans at the time] Personally I set all races to ally and only shoot them in self defence. There is enough Enemy factions to feed your need for fight rep :)
EDIT:typos
Dukes is the only source of the SSS software so having pirates friendly is not totally bad. Getsu Fune is best for Argon rank before Warrior Figher Rank (then Blackhole Sun becomes no place for a holiday home).
Warzones have an interesting mechanic in that it can be fooled out of sector. It is possible to place satellites and the war mechanics forget about them. Seems to use the same mechanics as Xenon sectors in that there is a global attack command for player property based on entry and exit from system (which is why satellite deployment messes with it due to the +1 entity).
Fight rank is bad in that it increases the numbers of ships owned by carriers. If you want to pump Fight Rank just go to a Xenon sector with an M7M and a following TL full of missiles.
Missiles are for profitssss - I honeslty never use them in X3 apart from Station busting. I still reached one rank below XXTreme in fight and trade.
The best Terran missiles are Sector Windshield Wipers - One push of a button and everything is gone. Well, maybe a few pushes of a button. :) I like 'splosions.
Amen.
With a TL rigging the stock market for only 60 million per order it is possible to get 2% on the final trade rank.
Fight rank only really counts if it is the player ship doing the killing (player owned ship kills give a low fraction)
Dock it to an Aran and you have a massive hold and room for 30 TS's. I used one to hold the stock from salvaged freighters from teh War Sectors... then sold that stock off by selling the salvaged ships with thier cargo if there were not enough local buyers willing to pay more.
The Aran is tough enough to pass through the War Sectors soaking up damage while you salvage missile and ships. Just save before you pass through in case the warrring ships get a few lucky shots in. One pass then a jump back to the other side can make you lots of profitsss and it is fun to get those damaged ships out. Often they still have a sheild; guns; and cargo. The next step is to take the Aran full of TS to the various ssecotrs to get the essential repairs and upgrades to make them worthy autotraders.
If you combine my tactics with the TECGS Salvage Command Suite [SCS] script.... you get a repair station [The Aran] that repairs those damaged ships whilst you fly around getting their upgrades. Any salvaged fighters can become either your escort, or can be sold off to pay for the updates
For general purpose it is. If the player wants to build a big complex fast where it is jump into gate drop the multiple stations and leave then Atmospheric Lifter is better.
Only if both factions are friendly to the player. If they are not then 14GJ shields are toast quite quickly. A problem with the Aran is that in sector it has the tendency to shred itself if docked with another Aran or other large ships like a Valhalla.
First: the player is NEVER EVER freindly to BOTH warring factions. The faction you are even slighlty less freindly with WILL try to tear you apart if they have control of the sector. So time your salvage according to who last attacked you.
Second: Docking 2 Arans or an Aran and a Valhalla is overkill if you want them to jump around. I'd park the Valhalla in a nearby sector and let it jump in if needed - but really timing is the answer.
One way to guarantee yourself time to collect some nice wares is to jump in at say teh South gate... wait for the attackers to bunch up and try to catch you then jump in through the North or East gate to collect those wares. With the SCS script you can even enable a small M3 to run around claiming the ships for you. Then tell them all to run for the Aran. The attackers will go for the Playership and let the Aran do its business providing you get the attackers chasing you :)
1) That only applies out of sector. If you have good reputations with both then in sector they will not shoot you.
2) Just stating the Aran has collision issues especially with a capital ship docked on it.
Try it :) Unless Egosoft changed it, without me knowing, my answer stands.
