where to find mosquitos missiles?
hey, i'm totally new to X3AP, started a campain with mods after watching a gameplay on youtube and i cant find mosquitos missile anywhere and i end up being shredded by missile spam. i have the bonus pack. all i can see in station that seems to fit the role is"light defence missile" but they dont shoot at missiles that are comming after me, even with the combat system mk2, turret set to missile defence and all that. so i'm asking.

where the hell are those mosquitos? :'(

Open the command console of your ship, go to additional commands. There should be some "missile-defence mosquito" or something. That's what fires them automatically. Question is whether that works with those "light defence missiles". Mossies should be sold on pretty much any EQ-dock, I think, but it sounds like your mods mess with that.

Turrets set to missile defence will not use missiles for it, but shoot the missiles with their lasers.

If you ever need to find where to buy something, hunt down the Encyclopaedia in the menu (I'm not in game now, but I think 'p' -> Advanced -> encyclopaedia should get you there)

In there you can bring up details on any piece of equipment, ship, weapon, whatever and it lists everywhere you've seen where you might be able to buy or sell it.

Edit: Of course, the real trick is finding out where they're in stock... Sadly, that's just a case of searching for them.

Edit2: Oh! and welcome to the game!

i feel light light defence missiles are mosquitos with a different name, i cant find any post on google with missiles named that way. i've looked the stats of the mosquitos and they have the same speed and firing cycle. they are both really cheap and sold in equipement docks.

i assume they are the same then. but it's weird, i'm using the star wars reborn mod and a few others, and on youtube i see people with the sames mods and with mosquito missiles instead.

i looked in the encyclopedia aswell and didnt find any mosquis there, so i assume they are really the same, i'm gonna do some testing to find out if the script works with them or not.

ps: i've set up the mosquito defence system on my ship but i'm afraid the script dont shoot because it has a different name than what the script expect.

Mosquito missiles are the ONLY defence missiles.

Buy a dozen or so and keep them on your ship. When you're on board. open up the ship's autopilot control panel. (shift + C should do it) and under 'additional commands' select 'mosquito missile defence'

Once that's active, as long as you have mosquitos aboard, they should automatically target any incoming missiles.

It's not perfect, but it helps. Otherwise, try to fly a fast ship until you can get a well shielded one.

(Also, take a moment to download the 'Bonus pack' DLC. It's free and contains a few useful scripts... I'm not sure, but I have a nasty suspicion that mosquito defence may be amongst them)

I tend to play vanilla, so I'm afraid I can't help too much with modded playthroughs, but yeah, check out any military outposts and equipment docks you come across. It helps to leave sattelites (or cheap ships) in sectors, then you can just check stock levels directly from the galaxy map.

Edit: Most (but not all) missiles are pretty slow, if you're quick, you might be able to manually target them and either shoot them down, or manually launch a mosquito or similar fast missile.

so after a chase that didnt make any sense, it appear "light missile defences" ARE mosquitos, just named another way. even tho they only shoot when a missile is way more close to my tail than i'm confortable with, they do shoot and intercept them. so case resolved. thanks for your answers boys, fly safe o7.

Swarm missiles tend to overwhelm the mosquito missile defence unless you use an M7M while torpedoes take too many to kill. Also there are some missile types that are exceptions so not defended against.

Just out of curiosity what game start did you go?

I'm glad you got it working :)

Once you get into bigger ships, there are alternative anti-missile systems... You can set gun turrets to shoot at incoming missiles, and some area of effect weapons on larger ships are very effective at screening them.

I don't think anything is 100% effective, but once you get into a big enough ship, you'll have to worry less about them.

Good profitssss!
