Where can I buy an advanced satellite?
Everywhere online gives locations like Argon prime, but apparently the factory was removed in a balancing patch.

I'm tired of wandering around an inky void looking for an inky station sector after sector.

If you have sectors explored with satellites deployed, you can check the in-game encyclopedia (under special objects) and will list stations you can buy them from. The list is only for station you have discovered though. The best stations to buy (aside from the Satellite factory) are Military Outposts.

If you want to find sectors with stations that you haven't explored yet, then check this out:

If I had satellites deployed I would know where I bought them.

I was assuming since you didn't mention it, and gave you suggestions for different cases. But I guess helping you only gets me a snarky response. Good luck with your game then...

It wasn't snark. Only dry reasoning. Why would you assume a person that does not know where to buy a thing already has a number of that thing? How would I have gotten them?

As I already said, those links are wrong. When I go to the spot within the system that claims to be where the factories are, they are not present. They were moved or removed in a patch ages ago and every resource online about the locations I have checked has been wrong, which is why I am here asking what is correct.

Like I said, I assumed since there are other ways starting player can map sectors other than Adv Sats (like the cheaper Nav Relay Satellites).

It would also help if you post what was missing in what sector to verify, and if you are using mods. Those maps online show the starting stations of a standard X3AP game and are mostly accurate, but after a long gameplay the stations may be destroyed by factions or deleted by the GoD engine and others may be added to help the ongoing economy.

Most high tech goes to military stations so when looking for adv sat's go there.
Ironically .. if you have a sat there you can see the stock at the stations from an other sector ... :)

Yep military stations, even they don't have any in stock they still list them.

Early on the game has a tendency to remove adv sat factories and you the player a tendency to try and buy many. That may lead them going out of stock somewhat :)
The game will eventually place the adv sat factories back and stock should jump back up a bit.
Never hurts to build your own adv sats and sell them, many places in the uni buy them and you can easily get away with a hub containing 12 or more factories.

Omicron lyrae should have a factory. the war zones seem remarkably stable while the GoD engine brutalizes the rest of the universe/

Its not the patches that move or removed them, its just the game, as its dynamic things can change over time, this is why its not a good idea to rely on guides for things like station location, as it'll be different in everyone's game.

Best to use the in-game encyclopedia, which will list the current stations as long as you have discovered them. You dont need satellites to use it, they can help uncover things, but are not required

Some stations only have a chance of spawning on game start to increase variability. If in doubt check paranid space since they usually have a few factories around Duke's Domain.

I tend to check around military bases for my satellites. Those and Ecells are the only things they have in stock most of the time.

That's because the factories in war sectors keep getting removed and rebuilt, so they keep respawning with average amounts of wares in all their stocks. At least that's true of most war sectors; I've never personally seen Jupiter 1 and Omicron Lyrae get wiped but I guess it happens if the factories are always stocked.

I was just talking about the stations themselves not the stock, but yes there tends to be at least some stock in war sectors (if your game isnt a buggy mess)

If the OP is still interested, I tend to buy crappy M5 scout ships and park them in stations to use as ad hoc spy satellites. Expensive for sure but it works and sometimes you even get to sell them to people looking for M5 ships. Just don't buy the ATF ones if you are playing Terran, for some reason or other, they are not recognized as Terran ships so you can't sell them for missions.
