Best weapons to mount on my centaur?
i have the centaur i was given for one of the game modes, it came with 4 concussion impulse generators which i find are good for most things but not small, fast, fighters. I tried the phased repeater gun but found that it was only good if you had more than just 1 or 2 of those...

The CIG makes the fighters tumble in space while you pick then off with other weapons. So 1 is enough. I would put a CIG in a turret then fill the other slots with Shield and Hull depleters of your choice.

For the front mounts I would suggest 8 CIGs or 6 CIGs and 2 IPGs. The turrets on the other hand are your choice, but by the sound of it you're most worried about smaller M5/M4 craft ruining your party (not really sure why though) in that case I'd suggest either the PRG or slightly more potent, albeit ammo based, EBC. Though personally I'd stick with the 8 CIGs and 3 HEPTs on the turrets. Later game when you start encountering more M3s and Corvettes you'll be happy for the extra firepower. (Though when it all comes down to it I'm a Heavy Centaur kinda guy.)

in my experience the shields are not good enough to be slugging it out with a xenon m6 that im trying to board while taking damage from several of those pesky fighters at the same time

For capping you're probably going to want 4-6 IPGs and some support fighters to take out the Xenon fighters, after the fighters are dead you can tell your fighters to attack the Xenon P's shields. (in the combat menu if you have combat mk 1&2)

But you should trade in the Centuar for a Dragon.

OP got the Centuar through the plot, Springblossoms might be very hard to get.

springblossoms?
And i probably do not have the rep to buy a dragon in the first place.
Also, what fighters would you reccomend to go agains the xenon L and M fighters?

Aldrin (Terran "subfaction") corvette. More than 300m/s speed iIrc, huge cargo bay, decent weapons.
The Spitfire (Aldrin M3) and Springblossom are OP really. Only reason to not use them en-masse is because their equipment is hard to get in greater numbers.

Tbh, I'd go for Paranid Enhanced Pericles (? The M4 anyway). More than 250m/s speed, 20MJ shields, normal M4 weaponary - not the best fighter, but priced like a scout, at less than 100k credits. Really good bang for your buck if you mass-produce PACs and 5MJ shields.
That is, however, assuming you were looking for a carrier-based fighter. Cargo bay is small, and class is S, so you won't be able to carry a jumpdrive.

If you're looking for a player fighter, I'd go either Nova (Prototype, if not available then Raider), or Mamba (Raider/Vanguard). Mamba will require hit-and-run tactics (a tight group of Ls and Ms may get through your shield even then), but can "in theory" take on any number of M3s and M4s (run, try to seperate into small groups, pick them off one by one), and can just run away if the going gets rough.
Nova is sturdier and better-armed, but slower. If you're unlucky you can get bogged down and have to fight, even when the odds are against you - unless you use a turbo-booster or jumpdrive. Also slightly harder to intercept targets (may need missiles or drones to lure a target near you.

For non-carrier fighters, you probably want loads of shield. Falcon (if possible Sentinel), Eclipse, Nova, etc.. Haven't messed much with that though.

Argon High-Tech traders in M3's will always be in a Nova Prototype.

I like the Venti from OTAS in Legends Home, Argon rep. I like everything OTAS.
Then the Terran fighters, same gun for everything, Electro-Magnetic Plasma Cannon, kinda boring. But they can last you a long time.

But where fighters and M6 shine is with the Plasmaburst Generator. A Pirate weapon. You want 8 of them in your arsenal before you send your Pirate reputation down the drain. You probably seen them, little M4 with that huge flame thrower in the front, taking down M6. That cloud of plasma does damage as long as the target stays in it. Great fun taking out Qs.

Plays In Traffic Apr 10, 2017 @ 1:37pm
