besides that, you really need to upgrade or you won't be playing much soon.

You can always play at 1080p on a 4K panel and use integer scaling for perfectly sharp pixels as would be on a 1080p panel. But yeah, 4K panels in general are not great for laptop use in general.
Besides all that the pixel density would be awful and make text teeny tiny (even with scaling.. not everything scales correctly). IMHO a 4K panel on any laptop is a huge mistake. 4K only makes sense with a 48" or bigger screen.
Anyway: The best performance for this game with any mobile part would always be one of the faster mobile GPU's and a 1080p native screen.
