Going to attempt to run this on a 1070
I will literally set everything to the lowest at 640x480 resolution even if I only get 24fps if it means I can get this running on a non rtx graphics card if it's the last thing I do.

am I the only one who managed to break the player FPS camera position of chell itself in the Vulkan mode?
TurboSonic Dec 8, 2022 @ 9:07am
nah it's like that for me too, portals and everything else is broken since it expects rtx remix to fill those in

I really am curious of what a 1070 can do. Go for it hero!! I will be here to support you. If you die in the RTX battlefield and don't make it back. I will keep an eye on your family for you. I don't mean that in a creepy way. lol

Can confirm that it does not even boot up on a GTX 1070

TL;DR:
A GTX 1070 lacks the features built into it to actually run RTX remix, which is part of Portal RTX. Haven't found out exactly why but a GTX 1070 is not going to load this game. I am led to further believe that no 2xxx series will either, as the minimum requirement is, I believe an RTX 3060. Upon running the game, a popup will claim that your card lacks the ability to run RTX Remix.

I think Valve has lost their edge when it comes to making video games. They certainly are not the same company they were when Portal 2 was released. Instead of doing a remake, which is really just them propping up an old product 'refreshed', they could have made a whole new game--Portal 3. They also seem to be willing to make PC games that only people with certain hardware can run: Alex and Portal RTX come to mind. This is a poor practice and a poor attitude for a video game company.

I have become disgusted with video games companies; its all about profit instead of making good products that people love, for a fair profit. Look at GTAV, an amazing game that they allow hackers to exploit, ruining one's online experience. Yet when YOU try to hack in money to compensate for the loss of hackers blowing up your cocaine, meth or weed, what happens? They suspend you. If you run hacks to protect yourself from hackers, again, suspension. See, Rock Star doesn't care about anything but selling more Shark-Cards, which is solely why that game made the most profit of any other game. They don't care about you or your enjoyment of their product. If you actually read the agreement when you install GTAV, you would realize that you don't even own that copy of GTAV that you paid for, you merely have paid for permission to play their product, but you do not own any bit of it. Seriously, go read it.

What I really wish is that gamers would grow some balls and start boycotting video game companies--Rock Star, Valve, etc. until these companies stop being bent on profit only--releasing a new game every 1-2 years: COD--and stop doing stupid things like wasting resources rebooting old games when they could be making new ones that work with MANY variables of hardware. If everybody boycotted say GTAVI when it is released, one of two things would happen: Rock Star goes out of business or Rock Star changes their business model to that of caring about their customers. GTAVI will probably be amazing but unless Rock Star loudly announces that they will protect their online servers from hackers, I won't be buying it.

I may be paranoid but it seems to me video game and hardware companies are working in conjunction to purposely create resource-hungry games--when they don't have to--that require greater and greater hardware. I mean, if you bother to look into who owns these companies, you will find, at the top, is it the same companies owning everything. Do you think NVIDIA or AMD want you sitting on the same video card for 4 or 5 years?

RTX 2080 Super and Ti can run Portal RTX better then 3060 don't know about 2080 though.

Any RTX card will run it. There's even a news post with suggested settings for all 20 and 30 series cards.

Carry Me is just an idiot.

I am running a 2060 Super with 8gb Vram. It will run this and has. I am going through the game. I found this post because the Radios are missing for me.

But I'm getting roughly 20-25fps with dips downwards and maybe 10fps upwards. Technically it is playable as I've been able to go through a few levels. However it is also quite unpleasant to play this way as well.

It has happened to me, and the problem is that the same graphic errors are also replicated in the original game. Reinstalling the game solves the problem of the textures and portals but not the problem of the model, so after a week searching I finally found that typing "cl_first_person_uses_world_model 0" command on the console returns to normal.

I've seen people get 60 - 70 FPs at 1080P in DLSS Ultra performance mode with shadows set to low and image quality set to High on an RTX 2060 6GB.

So, had anyone successfully launched it on a Pascal GPU? Mind you, I've read the minimum reqs but having played Quake 2 RTX without any issues (besides low fps, of course) it just breaks my heart that the super-oh-wow-amazing Nvidia RTX Remix turns to be a GPU-exclusive thing.

I have managed to play it on my GTX 1060 :D.

It's the original version with mods and reshade. I'm not going to buy an RTX just for a game, and until the GTX 1060 says "enough" I'm not going to change to another gpu.

sadly it's just reshade with texture and model mods and not real raytracing :L
