There are TONS of RTS games coming out, and some o them are already successful.
AoE2DE and AoE3DE also keep getting expansions.
RTS is alive and kicking, what died is Esports.
If you bring in your boring slow Gameplay, nobody will play the game seriously in Esport, because it's just boring to watch.
Yeah there is AoE 2, but that's the only RTS Game being into a ESports Szene, but even the Topplayers here needs high APM to being at the Top. AoE 2 is just communityfriendly to start with. Also AoE 2 isn't into ESL too, what means alot for good RTS Esports. Same goes for AoE 4 what was a kinda faster RTS Game, but didn't made it too.
So RTS Esports hasn't died. There is always a szene watching SC2 ESL Esports and if StormGate can make it, the time will tell. That's why the tournaments are all sponsored bei EGC, what basically doesn't means nothing. It's basically a poor Community ESport-Szene. The real competion begins once one of this RTS Games are getting into ESL, because there is where the real price money goes.
Just because 20-30k viewers watching the SC2 ESL, doesn't means ESports is dead. It's just like not so interesting to watch like the games i mentioned before, because there are not many people playing RTS Games at all.
Also it's just funny that you mentioning AoE 3 a way worse (if not the worst AoE Titel ever) RTS Game than AoE 4, while AoE 4 is still getting expansions as well btw.
APM wise AoE 3 and 4 are kinda the same game. But yeah seems like you just mentioning the slow games you like. I still love AoE 2 and 4 btw.
I will not buy even 1 Esports RTS, but will buy dozens, perhaps even hundreds, of casual RTS games throughout the years.
Also like i said, many casuals like you playing Coop, Campaign or Arcade and this will keep Stormgate alive too, while StormGate is kinda a slower RTS game and way way easier to learn + is getting 3vs3 with Heros for the Casuals. 1vs1 might stay for the competitive Players/Esports. So i don't know. I personally think that's a good balance, between the players who wants to play the game slower and casualfriendly and the the people who wants to play the game more competitive. But like i said 1vs1 in SG is way easier to get into than in SC2. They already denied so many unfriendly cheeseplay that SC2 had. I think they just working arround the maps now to figuring out what's the best balance here, that's why they startet arround with the tournament now, to see whats good or not. It's way to early to say what 1vs1 will looks like in the future.
That is totally fine. I also do this, but i want a real competition into 1vs1 as well, and if there is no playerbase to play against, it becomes really fast uninteresting to play for me.
Like i wish i still could play some Grey Goo Multiplayergames here and there, but the game has no community in 1vs1 anymore. And Grey Goo was really slow. There are just the 4 Guys playing the game all the times while you have to hope to get a Matchup ever.
