Stormgate
What did Stormgate do wrong?
So I'm asking genuinely, where did Stormgate fail so hard that made its extremely hyped community die down entirely?

I had a lot of fun playing Coop but I have not had too much time with it so my insight is very limited.

Placeholder meshes and sounds, crashes and bugs are all completely normal until weeks before 1.0 but the vast majority of people buying EA has no clue how game developement works. So to them, Early Access means "not feature complete but fully polished". Frostgiant should have know that people don't really want to know how the sausage is made.

Idk about others but EA for me is often a "subject to change beta" meaning things are currently in a rorm that is moldable into something good, the name "early access" is probably a bad choice when I really think about it lol

Also the game at base is free so it's one of the few reasons I haven't written it off, but if they don't step it up significantly or change monetization I don't see myself play and just going back to SC2, and it doesn't have to be both. If it's stepped up I may but coop slowly. But I won't buy a chapter split up campaign just sell it at one lump price! $60 or whatever
I think they can save the game if they knock it out of the park with a short but well polished single player campaign similar to how Northguard did it. Most people bought Northguard because of the campaign and stayed because multiplayer is surprisingly fun.

I have learnd from sc2 over years: people are always stupid. They cry, they wine.. nothing will be ever perfect...balancing crying is always big, and the truth is, people play like ♥♥♥♥. I like Stormgate. It has potential. Its not, really not finishd yet, but i like to play it. Its a little bit slow and sometime you think "nothing is really dealing damage", but its okay, its a different game. I will give the game a chance. I like it so far, and its cool to play such a game LIKE starcraft after years. But people will never stop with crying and talking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They still do in sc2 :D

Edit: Additional to that, in sc2, people dont understand: We would never patch a balance update for people, who are just and only low master and below. Its balanced for better player than that. And I guess, its nothing different here.
If >90% of your player base is below masters level (more likely to be >99% in a commercially viable product) then you're approach is insane from a marketing, business, and artistic approach since it lacks artistic integrity whilst also lacking any common sense design principles to actually appeal to the market.

This is coming from a Supreme Commander fan, I love high complexity, high variety gameplay, I'd like to have more content, more units, and more options for playstyles, I'd like Co Op commanders with more changes, and the ability to access a lot of those unique units normally via trade-offs or investing resources, I'd like to see complex strategies with countering counters to counters, and generalist units, including large units with independent targeting systems.

I know not every game will be that, and I'm cool with it. I'm cool with a game that's basically CnC or SC1 in terms of content, that's fine, but it should be balanced such that the average prospective player (that is to say players that are genuinely interested in the genre not just 'the modern audience') will enjoy it.

This isn't that.
The graphics are not a problem anymore. Ok some units could use redesign, which is WIP per latest art updates and terrain is fine - not worse than SC2's maybe slightly lesser and much much better than War3 Reforged graphics. Units are more or less toy-like style as are in SC2, I do not necessary dislike their style so far, so art is not a problem. They just need to add 4th 5th race and copy less SC2 units as Van copies a lot of Terran. And yes they need to make the game more engaging or interesting from creep camps and what to do during the expanding.

Making workers (12)? is yet again another copy of SC2 but maybe it was a good step so you start getting things sooner.

In SC2 the 12 workers made it expandcraft - where were the quick games like on Abiogenesis, Metalopolis, Xel naga caves - as much as I hate all in protosses, I prefer to have such games too of micro and all in than EVERY game to be mass expanding and unlike war3 where you could punish expander, in SC2 always expander is at advantage, you cannot deny them and waste time if you don't expand yourself.

While not a top priority I wouldn't mind down he line seeing maps themed more to each race either.

We have what is basically humans, demons, robot angels? Lol some darker demonic maps as an example just something themed. I wouldn't hate but again low priority at this exact moment xD

I also would like to see some better objectives in coop, mix it up in new ways. Defence based and other things, things that haven't bin necessarily explored like surviving for x amount of time.
If you make a game for immature people, you get immature responses.
I'll just repeat what I've stated earlier, what is the appeal of playing StarCraft 2 again 15 years later if SC2 already exists?

StormGate isn't bringing anything new and the factions are just slightly altered interpretations of Terrans, Zerg and Protoss.

I'm sorry but it has have zero appeal.
Don't talk about the quality at first

As we see, many thinks look like SC2, the 2nd mine is very near the base, many things look like

It is terrible, players must compare to SC2, SC2 run many years, then SG in a disadvantages

Then why they don't make the game like SC1....
Everything. They did everything wrong.

See the demos for Godsworn? Tempest Rising? ZeroSpace? See how none of them look like absolute trash? See how none of them roll out microtrasaction shop ahead of release? Yeah...
the start of ea was horrendous. but after the last patch it really delivers really good rts matches
Well, you're not "genuinely asking" you're stiring the pot, I'll take the bait.

I avoided this like the plague because it looked like an aborted Blizz RTS from all previews.

The best pre-release hype that they could come up with looked terrible.

Why don't you guys play Beyond All Reason, or some of the more recent remastered RTS titles?

beyond all reason, godsworn and tempest rising are completely different subgenres of the rts genre in my opinion. the only 2 titles, for me, which are coming close to the sc2 feeling are stormgate and zerospace. in my opinion sg is better than zerospace.

THIS and I will explain it in the other thread
They overestimated people's intelligence when it comes to tempering expectations with early access products.

Stupid ignorant peasants.
It's their fault, FG made a bad game, which no one plays.
"Behold the next 10 years of RTS: next-gen, esports, revolution in the genre. But make sure to temper your expectations. Get hyped just enough to pay twice the price for half the quality, but not too hyped to become disappointed and leave bad reviews".

As you can see, many of us didn't strike the perfect level of hype. What an awful unreliable community...
