Project and funding mismanagement.
Terrifyingly bad quality and polish.
Terrible task prioritizing.
False advertising.
Consumer scamming.
Lack of ideas and vision.
No innovations at all.
Underwhelming implementation/lack of talented employees.
Bad community management.
Inadequate monetization model and pricing.
IMO they didn't have a single component of a good game.
It is worse than SC2 in every way.
Edit: Additional to that, in sc2, people dont understand: We would never patch a balance update for people, who are just and only low master and below. Its balanced for better player than that. And I guess, its nothing different here.
The old 1vs1 formula just puts too much pressure on players so most don't even care for rts games anymore. Being part of a team of 10 would take that pressure away because 9 other players could pick up the slack for a newbie allowing him to familiarize himself with the game without him getting trashed every time.
So i don't think Stormgate failed, rather there is no more market for the old rts formula of the late 90's
If there are still those who prefer to accuse and insults players like soupG or Madara, taking its micro community of junky addicts for a generality (Blizzard had perfected to the utmost the ability to make people completely addicted to games that could even be crummy, like D3 or Wow Recently), or who prefer to accuse the RTS genre like Bowser when there is no shortage of recent examples of successful RTS, so be it, in any case players deserted the game a while ago, only the blind remain.
Keep calling the players idiots, it'll bring them back. Of course, we didn't see the “genius” who designed this game, which is literally a revolution in videogames.
Enjoy this game, which has “potential” according to soupG. You'll explain the potential on this forum, maybe we'll read you, maybe not.
Edit: and if you really think, these crying people are NOT stupid.. u never read what they write every day about every game :D They are just bad and crying about balancing... I mean, come on... not a reason to attack me^^
I don't even have a line about the balance in my list of the game's failures.
All that matters is if the game is good.
If it is people will play it regardless of balance and bugs.
This one obviously isn't good. That's why it has mixed reviews and 100 players online. That's just it. The game is bad, people got through the initial hype and moved on.
The sooner you accept it the better.
And the biggest mistake they made was going for competetive esports scene which kills every single RTS or Shooter game on arrival nowadays. You cannot go straight into it without a base of singleplayer casual players. And to get casual players you have to have good singleplayer. AoE2 the most played RTS nowadays just released a single player campaigh DLC. And on top of that has about 200 singleplayer missions to play.
And this pile of crap called Stormgate? Went with 3 badly written missions and wanted money for another ones.
Noone asked themselves why pepole know who Raynor, Kerrigan, Arthas are? Because they played great single player campaign with great narrative.
Who cares who Amara is when it is just a champ for crappy multiplayer game.
Even LoL MOBA which does not have singleplayer mode expanded lore and gave champions a backstory which was also expanded by other media that players would follow that kept casual people interested.
And on top of these all bad decisions you have fanatics sho will badmouth anyone who sees SG for what it is, a failed project and a bad game.
See Madara you got me banned here on steam forum for truth for a month. There were 500 players daily then. Now how many are still playing your beloved piece of ♥♥♥♥? Your tactic of keeping normal people from saying that game is bad failed to attract more people to play it. Because no mater how fragile your or devs ego is you will never change the reality. Censorship of opinions never helped anything. If anything it usually hastens the fall.
Why mr. Anderson? Why are you defending one ♥♥♥♥♥♥ RTS after another?
Live service garbage.
No proper campaign.
Too esporty.
The artstyle is largely fine but the unit design is a disaster with too many similar looking things on the screen.
Got some snazzy backgrounds and portraits too =)
