As a Warcraft player, it doesn't feel like Warcraft.
I get what it’s modeled after. Sc2 is more my forte than wc3 is. But it doesn’t feel like sc2 either, despite the factions being weird gameplay copies of StarCraft. And I ain’t even touched the coop missions with the heroes. I’m just saying, if you took the heroes out of Warcraft and played a skirmish, this feels more like that than anything StarCraft related
Also, macropart of the game is absolutely easier and better in sc2, it's a thorough disaster in this game and those problems reeks of wc3 even if the factions are mostly based on sc2.
Well, shouldn't surprise anyone that the folks making that wc3reforged are here making stormgate, especially when both suffer from same types of issues unlike most games.
(Feels like they removed access to download the old cd versions of wc3 from bnet accountpage just so people wouldn't have readily available comparisons to see how crazy much more responsive and better it is compared to reforged, glad I still have computers with discdrives.) =p
For anyone that own and registered the original wc3 cdversion on their bnet acc, they can by "downloading" it from the bnet accpage and running what you get, receive access to play wc3reforged with reforgedgraphics disabled and not toggleable, incase you feel like testing out all the gameplay changes and such they made without additional purchases.
As someone who played both games extensively this game feels a lot more like warcraft 3 than sc2.
But yeah, "game feel" is really - really off with Stormgate. It feels worse than WC3 when it comes to SFX
It is more like SC2 with creeping than WC3 without heroes. Although I really cannot comment on the macro or army comps. You guys seem to have played it a fair bit now. Some of the big battles look a bit like WC3.
Beastyqt said it is very tempo oriented and that sounds like SC2. Taking out the heroes makes it not WC3. Where are the merc/shops, tavern, day night cycle, upkeep, tp? Does creepjacking happen much? Idk.
If it feels like neither SC or WC the rest is probably filled in by C&C3 or RA3 and HotS.
I’m not blaming wc3. It’s not a fault of wc3. That game is just balanced around heroes being involved in the battles. It works and feels great, for its playstyle and feel.
This ♥♥♥♥ just feels bad and clearly is having some identity issues settling on what they’re going after for its balance and gameplay. Hell it’s why I suggested maybe they should go whole hog and take coop plays heroes and throw them into the skirmish mix. It’s too slow for StarCraft, and it’s too fast for wc3. They need to do something here lol
The devs have confirmed that currently it is already possible to recreate Warcraft 3 hero system in the editor. Although at this point it still requires the use of triggers, but they are hoping that it will be completely built in the editor before it's released
We can agree the game has identity issues and is trash atm. If they add heroes to 1v1 it will become pay to win though.
That's good to hear. It's going to be a long wait for that.
This game makes me really appreciate how good the sound design is in WC3 and SC2/BW.
It's something that I always sort of took for granted, but hoo boy, I'm feeling it now after playing this.
