FYI for those wondering what specs my Lenovo is, its here:
https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/lenovo-ideapad-y700-17-80q0001nus
I will note though, there is a slight difference between the specs there and my Lenovo Laptop > my 1 TB HDD did have to go since it broke (which, IMO, seems common for HDDs :) ). As such, my E: drive on my Lenovo is actually a 1 TB Samsung SSD 850 EVO.
But yeah, otherwise, this is what i did :)
>>>
1) I did keep the resolution in Stormgate on max for my pc ie resolution was kept at 1920 x 1080.
2) I lowered the 'Visual Quality' to 'Low'. I preferred this option over Medium as it did provide better performance. However, if you do want fairly significant better graphic quality, then yes consider putting this to Medium if you prefer.
3) I set 'Frame Rate Limit (Menu)' and ' Frame Rate Limit' both to 30 FPS. I found this did significantly improve performance with little impact on visual quality.
So, that all above stuff did help :) But, however, I went even further and did the following:
a) Since I fortunately have a large SSD as my 1 TB drive, I utilized creating a nice large Virtual Memory block to better my laptops performance. Its a little long winded how to do it, but, its something like this
> Go to 'Advanced System Settings' (can type into Win search bar to get there)
> Click the Settings button under the 'Performance' section
> Click the Advanced tab
> Click the Change button under the 'Virtual Memory' section
> Change the size of the virtual memory to something nice and big :) I think you ideally want to do this on the drive that you installed Stormgate on. Or, perhaps do this on your fastest drive you have (or perhaps the largest drive you have). Ideally though, if possible, on the drive that Stormgate is installed on, which happens to also be your largest, fastest drive :)
> And yes, set the size to something nice and big :) For me, I selected the 'Custom Size' option, setting 'Initial Size' to 15000 (15GB) and Max Size to 30000. Although really, I would say to even do 30000 and 60000 might make sense to.
> after setting this, restart your computer.
and besides doing a), I also did:
b) Increase Dedicated VRAM size by doing this:
> this one I'm actually a little skeptical on, I'm not sure if it works or not. But it might. I can't describe this one completely as its pretty complicated, so I'll paste the YouTube video I used to do this here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iB9bKl8ptj4
> Essentially though, for me, I ended up doing:
> adding a 'GMM' key to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation'
> adding a 'GMM' key to ALSO 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global'
> I then added a DWORD to each of those GMM keys (naming the DWORD as 'DedicatedSegmentSize') with a value of 8192 (ie 8192 MB, or 8 GB).
> and restart your computer when done.
And then, after all that, magic happened and Stormgate ran quite well :D
Hope this post helps you! I found Stormgate very enjoyable for me after doing this, and I hope you experience the same ;)
Cheers,
