Stormgate

Stormgate

The future of RTS is here!!!
The Tims finally changed the roadmap and delayed coop to focus on campaign and 1v1.
What a genius idea!! Why didn't anyone say that earlier? I think this could really change how all the RTSes are made in the future...

There's 69 players on right now. A free to play game in the Middle of Christmas. I was expecting some sort of jump after the 20th had passed, but people really do cast a vote with their time. Lots of promises in the woodworks though, let us see if they can deliver a major patch every month till late 2025 where they plan to drop 1.0.

Couldn't you wait till it dropped to 68? Lol.
Anyways, that is a pretty sad state of the game. But there is nothing to come back for over christmas? One new coop hero and some balance patches. That might tide over people already playing but campaign updates are not out, no 3v3, no editor. 2025 is make or break for them.

In saying that, merry christmas dude, and anyone reading this. I wish we could have new shiny AAA rtses to play but instead I am here ranting about my childhood get the life sucked out of it. One day a publisher might do right by us rts folks. Tempest rising and Zerospace are on the horizon. At least we will have those next year. And whatever stormgate morphs into by that point. May the emperor also grant us dawn of war 4. Cheers.

I think it's more so the fact that you only get one first impression and if you botch that first impression that's how you'll be remembered. The community tried to warn them that the game wasn't ready to go into early access, let alone start charging for content, but FG, and specifically Tim Morten, in their wisdom thought otherwise.

The only thing that might bring back a large number of players is a 1.0 relaunch but with the caveat that it comes with everything they promised in the Kickstarter. No more of this "first draft" or work in progress bs from a company that marketed and sold itself to us a being a bunch of former Blizzard vets, a studio that had/has some of the highest production quality standards in the entire industry.

I don't get why people are so whiny. I grew up during the RTS boom of the 90's. What did you expect from a Stormgate early access? I'm not sure what you guys expected or why you built up expectations for an early access, but you people are weird. I'm just riding the wave, watching the slow improvements. StarCraft 2 still exists, you know. You could play that as your main game and play this as each improvement comes and give feedback, which is what the devs are looking for anyways. YOU could collectively make this game GREAT for the future on full release and it would benefit EVERYONE in the RTS community and the devs. It's not difficult. Instead, people whine, complain and act like spoiled Gen Z kids who focus on themselves and only themselves, rather than the big picture. But hey, you do you. I'm not the one with emotional immaturity.

What a tone deaf take. Some of us have backed this game from as far back as over a year ago and have been actively providing critical feedback during that time that went ignored by FG and dismissed as us "not understanding their vision." All the changes they're slowly implementing now, after early access has been a complete flop, were suggested to them as far back as 1-2 years ago.

Perhaps you don't realize but this game has existed before it went into EA on Steam and people have paid for bundles ranging from $40 to $250 from these "ex-blizzard" devs who promised everything and everything and yet have delivered nothing close to the Blizzard standard they said Stormgate would be. It's really just that simple. Devs over-promised and under delivered, not to mention took credit for Blizzard's past successes in which they weren't instrumental in the creation of and only came on after the fact.

After they delayed 1v1 to focus on coop, now it's the other way around again? I have to admit that I indeed dont understand their vision.

If you figure it out, please let them know, then there will be two of you.
AFAIK, they now delayed 1v1, campaign, and co-op to make 3v3, and run it on the closed testing server.

What did I expect?
Frost giant raised $40 million in seed investments for a free to play game that was supposed to last 10 years. The next gen, next great RTS game after SC2, "the game that you've all been waiting for" (that was literally on the steam page before they changed it for EA).
This is their only game. They're all in on it.
I expected them to make a game based on THEIR promises.
Sure it's an over the top sales pitch. But are you going to blame me for falling for that too?
Does this look remotely like a $40 million game or the next great RTS?
How on earth did they make UE5 looks worse than UE3?
People literally did what you said. They gave feedback. A lot of them were banned from discord and ignored.
These devs really are tone deaf.
By comparison, Tempest Rising looks far more put together and has been in the oven about the same time of 4 years. Compare these two and it's a laughing stock.

id say they started serious devolpment in january 2022, anything before that was likely just demos, concept arts and of course excel spreadsheets. so its more like 3 years.
i mean what are a bunch of bosses and lead designers supposed to do without a proper workforce? absolutely nothing of any value.

Doesnt make it much better though, i dont know how its even possible they burned through 40 million, like if you do the math with already absurd wages, youll end up with around 20 million used up at this point. Did they really waste 20 million in marketing....?

but atleast the complaint about wasted time might not be super accurate. Unreal engine 5 was fully released in april 2022, maybe they even waited for that, which would make it just 2 years and 8 months.

Apparently you never heard of Star Citizen lol

star citizen (currently):
cost: 750 million
developement: 12 years (i think we can ignore the early access release)
staff: roughly 1000

stormgate (currently):
cost: 40million ( i dont have a source for them having wasted it completely already)
developement: 3 years (full scale)
staff: 40 (thats atleast what i found)

they arent comparable. star citizens issue was resources being wasted to rework things for no good reason due to useless higher-ups.
40 million used up for stormgate at this point cant be explained like that, they must have thrown lots of money at something unproductive or they still have like 20 million left.

I also don't get the Star Citizen example.
It is the greatest scam in video game history. Peter Molineux's wet dream.
Does FG spend resources as inefficiently as Star Citizen team? Probably not.
Does it mean FG spends resources efficiently? Of course not.
