Stormgate

This is it.
It's been a long journey but we are finally here, with a peak player count of 64 today and the sudden sharp drop of the few remaining players, we have reached the end of the road. RIP stormgate you won't be missed.

Yeah uh, maybe banning critical people left and right in the leadup to the early access launch, creating unfullfillable expectations and falsely advertising the game wasn't the best idea.

But hey maybe Tim Morten will do another 300 hours of interviews with youtubers followed by nobody and they'll relaunch in the far future, who knows. Honestly a finished game that doesn't suck would help, I know that "have a good product and people will come" is not exactly what they teach in marketing school but... yeah.

The player count has been slowly dropping for months. What is special about 64?

Speaking of censorship I now remember jokingly saying the last faction would be angels because I read someone say that on reddit and it kinda made sense... my comment was promptly deleted. I did not believe it was actually true though. After the reveal I was so surprised, why were they so secretive about something so obvious and unoriginal. o.O

I had no clue the level of censorship reached the levels described... but it kinda makes sense seeing how many people still got duped.🤠

at this point entire game is pvp - and it is hard to sustain anything when your business model is based on high amount of player that are paying for stuff.
Also these players will drop out at some point.
In other words - we are going into to the place, where there is a game that requires players to play but they aren't hanging around anymore.

At some magic number it becomes impossible to find a match with a balanced opponent in a reasonable time, when they hit that everyone just quits and the player numbers drop off a cliff to basically no one.

Also you can't run a free to play game that sells content with 64 players hahaha so it's just entertaining to watch it die

Player count has dropped down so low that I can probably host the entire game server on my PC XD

Actually it sorta does get taught. “product” is one of the 4 Ps of Marketing.

Why there are so many people writing every day the low player count? Play it or leave it! We will even dont miss you. The game is not near to be finishd. Enjoy what we got - or just leave it. We enjoy to play every day our own causual tournaments of an unbalanced and unfinished game, and we enjoy it. Ofc we laugh about some game elements, but...well... we will see what the game is about in like 2 years. And if its still crap, its for free, so we lost nothing.

I'm afraid that is not how finances are run in a company after they've just did that 2 year thing while ignoring all counter feedback. "We lost nothing"? I see as we gained nothing for a fake promise. And so then we have lost much.

Also we're all commenting on events that we all predicted. notions that we believe in were vindicated. to try to suppress that while the final nail is hammered in is pointless and rude.

i can only feel bad for the people who backed this game, for anyone who doesn't know better this didn't look so bad until valid criticism started being swept under the rug

TBH it goes way earlier than that. The moment they revealed the gameplay and the content creators ignored all the criticisms... and it almost felt like they were gaslighting the audience, that's when I realized it was over. A further realization is that the fake hype and silencing criticisms was just part of the strategy but you can only maintain a lie for so long before it blows back up. It was coordinated and widespread, even TeamLiquid was banning people who were just saying the truth in the SG thread. Now the thread is dead. Insanity, really, what were they expecting?

The magic number may have been hit around 100 or so as Concord had the plug pulled when it was around that low.
Never thought I would say this but this game, that is supposed to be a spiritual successor to starcraft 2, has less players than dawn of war 3.

Teamliquid has been a cesspool for a very very long time. Hell, at one point teamliquid was making decent revenue and then started to ask people to write for them.
for. free.
They continued to try and use free labor which generated cash for them and they tried to play it off saying it was only enough money for so and so many full time employees to live off of. Then it comes to light they were making more then claimed and liquid naz sold off the company.
Hopefully teamliquid goes the way of the dodo bird like stormgate will.

Damn bro, how deep does this rabbit hole go? smh

I used to check TL pretty regularly back then, so was obviously curious what they had to say about SG, that thread and some reddit were my source of news for SG. I guess tendrils of corruption have spread everywhere indeed... I think I am starting to understand the phrase "dirty e-sports money" lol. Think I will stick to single player or smaller mp games from now on. The good old games and whatever new games that carry the spirit of these games. To loosely borrow the terms from Starcraft lore... new games take the form of the old games... but where is the essence?

Because for the past 3 years they have been shouted down and accused of spreading "hate" any time they try to give feedback on the game. They've been tread on, beaten and abused. Let them have their, we told you so, moment. They earned it.
