Stormgate

Stormgate

co-op feels just ok and first thoughts.
It honestly kind of lacks the Umph that SC2 coop has, the heros dont feel as impactful as something like Nova, kerrigan, Dehaka, those felt like heros. the progression doesn't feel quite as smooth in a lot of ways either.

And are all the missions the exact same? cuz we got the same mission every time where it was a bunch of bases on a random map and we stop escort carts... but thats it? no other tpyes of coop yet? heopfully that changes.

I do love some of the QoL features, the helper bot to help micro for new players made it easy for a new friend to the genre to keep up, the all units and upgrades under 1 key, for less hotkey micros. disable match making for solo or 2 player was great.

a tutorial for each race in coop might not hurt, had to really walk thru on easy to grasp an understanding of units and structures. And thankfully i knew a little about the game cuz some mechanics like "shroud" his units kept dying and i was like OH yeah you need to take them back to build up that white bar. cuz thats not explained for people who only wanna coop. a fe s,aller things.

Overall to me it feels like it lacks impact though thats the biggest itch it isnt scratching.

there are 5 coop maps with 1 being disabled because of performance issues. Out of thous 5 maps you have several different objectives and they are “ kill ememy leader while protecting your own” , “ escort convoys “ , “ close portals/abyssal gates within set amount of time “ and starcraft 2-stormgate version of “ dead of night mission” which is disabled because of issues currently.

You just had bad luck with RNG to always play same mission, it happened to me too with portals map.

Well if that's the case we shall try a few more see if we get lucky lol

But I do wish the heros felt more hero like, but I'll keeping Luling them these are some first thoughts, Maybe If I max em that'll change hopefully like it does sometimes in SC2 coop

Yes, same feeling here, underwhelming hearoes and visuals are main issues i have with this game. Doing SC2 COOP as Nova, Mengsk or Kerrigan actually felt very fun and impactful while here in Stormgate heroes simply lack that “ epic” feeling and abilities that SC2 heroes have. I maxed out amara, highest lvl is lvl 15. Oh and Campaign too, did all missions, it’s underwhelming compared to starcraft or warcraft.

Agreed, they don't change the gameplay in a dramatical way, neither the hero itself or level upgrades. And it doesn't even look that going level 10+ changes anything ? (I'm Blockade 8, I wouldn't know)

Lvl 11-15 unlocks gear for your Commander, lvl 11 and 13 unlock the 2 gear slots where you can insert one gear each. They are basically passive buffs that are active at all time which you choose before a mission. And some gear pieces can even be used by different commanders.

I agree that it's a solid foundation, though like with most things in the game it needs more work. Obviously more stages would help, but one thing I think that shouldn't be overlooked is the presentation side of things. Currently, compared to SC2 it just feels way more dry. In Starcraft 2, your character frequently pops up in the little talk window to say things, like responding to the mission announcer, warning of attack waves, or after you've won the map. These little one-liners help flesh out the characters a lot more, and having characters that people like is critical to the success of the mode.

It feels like a WC3 custom map from the 2000s. The heros are not only lackluster but they don't change the way your army plays in any way like the SC2 heros did. It just feels inferior to SC2 on every level and yet was made by some of the people who worked on the SC2 co-op. Unless the current iteration was some outsourced placeholder it's unfathomable how the same people could create this. Either it was outsourced or the people are Frost Giant are greatly over-exaggerating their contributions to SC2.
