Gaming has forgotten it's a hobby. Hobbies should fit in with our lives, and be available at the drop of a hat.
Modern gaming (classic gaming had its own issues, but that's not the topic here) is just one pain point after another.
Maybe I don't have 10 hours to dedicate to gaming today. Maybe the internet isn't reliable where I live. Maybe I don't want to give money to sex pests. Maybe I have standards. Maybe I play games to RELAX, not do a bunch of stupid digital paperwork for what's essentially an unpaid job.
So much of gaming today is about what's convenient for the publishers/devs, and I'm just sick of it. We play games to escape that kind of 'you don't matter in society' nonsense, yes?
Voting with your wallet won't change anything on a large scale, but it'll save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
Count the junior players, on pokémon, mario...
Count single-player players, Elden Ring, BG3, Black Myth
Count the casu players who explore the single-player content of multiplayer games (Diablo, Wow...).
Count Sims, Minecraft, CandyCrush and others ultra-cusual games and sandboxes.
And don't forget the grandpa who plays solitaire on his tablet and other card games...
All in all, multiplayer gaming is just one small facet of the video game world.
Add to this the fact that multiplayer and PvP gamers have a strong tendency to stick to old games, such as CS, Fortnite... They have no reason to move on to other games, as these are already “perfect” for what they're looking for, even if they love raging on forums for various reasons. Multiplayer PvP players are generally extremely loyal to their games and will rarely go looking for something new. And even in this category of player, those who like 1v1 are largely in the minority, it's team play that is largely predominant and makes up 98%+ of multiplayer players.
I'm convinced that a good proportion of SC2 1v1 players will prefer to stay with SC2 whatever happens to this game, even if an interesting alternative emerges. That's loyalty beyond reason.
And then there's FrostGiant, which ignores solo players, ignores team PvP and wants to attract 1v1 PvP players...
