Forcing matchmaking leaves a very bad first impression

I wanted to hop on and tinker with Stormgate for 5 or 10 minutes to get a feel for it.

Wait, 1v1 only - no option to play against bot
Wait, coop is 3 player - no option to play with bot

Maybe some people don't want to play a complicated game with strangers before they remotely know what they're doing. Maybe they want to play around a bit - pause and tinker with settings.

So, instead of getting to play Stormgate I tried the demo for 9 bit armies. Had fun. Got to play a through-back RTS at my own pace and learning curve. I also have the OPTION to invite ONE friend to coop.

Stormgate massively dropped the ball for me. Clearly they're targetting the online crowd. Remember how that worked for the free to play Command and Conquer revival some 10 years back...

It is very much possible to play against a bot, all you have to do is open a custom game. You can also open a custom Coop game (Wreck Havoc map) and invite your firends to it, though you can't enter matchmaking with it and have to either play with less players ( I don't think you can add AI's for other Coop players) or hope some random person enters your lobby. There you can even activate some mutators, to make the enemies even stronger, like auto reviving or exploding enemies.

This is the main thing that bothers me. Just tried it out but I'm like idk how to play and so how am I suppoed to learn without a in-game tutorial or vs AI games to get a feel first?

That's what really struck me as odd as well. I want to play through the first part of a story campaign, not just go in and duke it out on a random map either against someone/a bot or with someone/a bot.

I say this in my first impressions post: it feels like it's made for multiplayer (esports) first and not because they want to tell a story and create a campaign.
