Also, there is a non low chance that they might add even more factions somewhen after the release. So we might end up with a lot more than just 3. But for the release you better just expect 3.
And in case you are lucky enough to already play in the closed pre/alpha you will only be able to play the human faction, the infernals come somewhen later, though no idea if in the closed alpha or closed beta, but certainly not in the closed prealpha. But for the closed beta you at least would have a decent chance to be selected if you subscribed for it on their website. Even though there is a very small chance that you could already make it into the prealpha ...
We have confirmed that we're going to have more than two, in case that helps.
Awesome! I came here to find this exact question. I think 3 or 4 is best. 3 like starcraft or 4 like warcraft 3. Multiple factions makes things interesting. So excited for this game! RTS is the best!

Having nature faction that expands its area via plants seem like the most likely option to me.
