Launching game problem

installed game > Installed patches > clicked PLAY from the launcher menu > black screen > black screen with the games sound effects in the background > i click the black screen > Game freezes > forced to restart PC > RAGE > Ask Steam forums for help

Update.

i tried to have steam check the local files and it said 770 files failed to download and it started to
download an aditional 5.7GB and after that was over the EQ2 launcher downloaded 2.8GB.

i started the game again and it still had the same issue stated above. i asked steam to do another integrity test and the same 770 files failed to download and another 5.7gb started downloading....

i am about ready to uninstall the game and purge it from my mind, unless someone can assist me.

hey odd thing is. you download this game direclty from everquest2.com and it works perfectly fine. I finally caught a glimpse and it looks like a Video file running. im testing a few more things out and will report back if i get it working

ok Fixed it. Go to the install path. Mine is listed below and run the DXSetup.exe as admin. Then try the game out.

G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\EverQuest 2\redist\DirectX\

I had same problem had to restart each time. from launcher I changed display settings to windowed I think and finally got it to work. launches fine now. GL

me too 8/19/15 on both Landmark and EQ2

Same problem. Was working fine with Windows 10 until I upgraded my hard drive to an SSD. Now it won't work. After opening the launcher and clicking Play, I can hear the intro video, but I get a black screen. I can CTRL+ALT+DEL and I see that the game stopped responding.

Thinking it might be a DirectX or video driver issue, but I'm all up to date. Frustrating.

Ok, I did two things and now the game works. Not sure which one fixed it though.

First, I downloaded DirectX from Microsoft and installed it. Then I went to the video options from the launcher and unchecked Full Screen option and launched the game.

The game launched as intended. Then I pressed ALT+Enter to go to full screen and then exited the game. When I launched it again, the game launched in full screen perfectly. I'm guessing this last option might have been the fix.

The DirectX directory you describe does not seem to exist on my computer. Maybe because it is a fresh install, and not an upgrade to windows 10. The odd thing is, it ran find on my computer at first after I upgraded to windows 10. But then I nuked my boot drive and did a fresh install of windows ten. Now it black screens after the launchpad starts the game. I hear the music, but if I let it finish the intro music, or hit any key it locks, and I have to sign out of windows, or reboot to regain control of the computer. I suspect it is missing Direct X files. But I see no way to fix the issue.

After validation, I noticed somehow Steam forgot to download 176 files. Oh, you're so silly Steam. *rolls eyes*
