Vulkan would be good tho.
The DX11 API port is currently on the Beta test servers for EQ1, and got delayed a little bit in order to iron out and fix the remaining bugs and regressions after the initial port (this is normal behaviour after a major port like this). They are going to finish working on that first before EQ2 gets upgraded, so that pretty much means 2024 for both games at the time of this writing.
The plan for EQ1 is to do the initial port, which is done, and then fix arising issues before being able to work on the performance of the game, which is going to get enhanced after switching to DX11. They also say that they will be working on adding new visual features to the game, such as tessellation, improvements to occlusion, and access to additional post-processing effects. In addition, new and improved art for DX11 is going to be released as well eventually. They use the word "eventually": This leads me to believe that they're going to be doing some of these things step by step as it comes along.

Going by this I can only assume that EQ2 is going to be getting a similar treatment, and seeing how EQ2 is a much more modern and more powerful game from a technical point of view, it actually might be possible to go much further with the second game when it comes to the graphics and overall performance.
For now you can play EQ2 with Vulkan enhanced performance, which can literally double your framerate on Linux. See here for more info:
