Ah so more people play on the standalone client, any idea of numbers and is it worth me playing this game?
All MMO's have personal site & client. Version from personal site (https://www.everquest2.com/home) not have integrated Steamworks functions. And this version not visible for Steamcharts (who use Steamwork Stats). Global online in game bigger than in Steam-version.
EQ2 was better than WoW in every way except smoothness of animations. WoW became popular the way it did because Blizzard spent a crap-ton of moolah to get tons of famous people to advertise the game for them. It worked. I played WoW briefly when it launched... compared to EQ2 it was really really bad. people just liked that you could get decent framerates and smooth animations on a 7 year old computer playing WoW, while EQ2 tasked the most powerful new computers when it was launched. But in terms of gameplay and graphics EQ2 was and is the better game.

Now I would almost agree with you, at least on how Blizzard was able to sell it so well.. Sadly your whole argument falls apart by the fact WOW is still chugging along just fine.. I had wondered if we would get something to compete withit.. with EQnext.. but sadly that was just a NIGHTMARE cashgrab taht screwed SOOO many people *thank god i didnt preorder that an the other dumpster minecraft wanna be they made*.. An wow has had some SERIOUS competition! As for the guy who quoted me in respect to ' dont judge steam numbers '.. I know that, when i stated that it was dying hard.. that was fully BASED on the fact I am a paying customer to the time locked server.. Compared to when it first went up.. the numbers SADLY have been dropping..
I'll have to take you up on that given I am coming back after a long hiatus... I miss my EQ roots though i dont know if EQ Classic is any good still as well.. All i know i miss norrath and I miss legends of norrath and all the joys the game had brought. How is this new developer?
But what i love about it is, you really have to invest alot of time reading and understanding the game, the mechanics of play, all the different characters and classes. There's not much hand holding here. And I get much more out of leveling a character here. I have to work for it. It's hugely rewarding. I played wow for many years. Aside from having better graphics engine, shadows and lighting and performance, the community is toxic. I believe the simplicity of gameplay on wow breeds that. Younger people can access it more quickly. there's alot of one-hit kill gameplay. You level up quickly and you don't have to think at all about your skills until much later.
EQ2 requires more UI setup, the options is daunting. the game is not very forthcoming with information, but the world is extremely rich and massive. The dialogue is top notch, the quests are well-written. The game has expansion #14 coming out in november. If your a studious kind of person that likes to be rewarded for investing alot of time into your character, you will not be disappointed in EQ2.
Most important, the community is fantastic. Tons of helpful, kind people willing to answer questions and give you a boost.
im downloading the game again because it is a good mmorpg
I am looking to group up with people. 23 Mystic!
