KAISERPUNK FAQ
What is Kaiserpunk, gameplay loop, best practices

Greetings Governors!

Kaiserpunk has now reached full version 1.0, meaning all planned features are now part of the game, even a few extra that were suggested by players during public Playtests.
As part of these Playtests and our internal long run sessions, we’ve realized this game concept can be further improved in many directions. And since work on Kaiserpunk will resume for some time, you can expect plenty of updates and new content in weeks and months ahead.
As you play the game, feel free to send us back your reactions, feedback and suggestions. We’ll gladly go through it all and adopt what can benefit the future refinement of the experience.
Have fun discovering everything game offers and make your shot for glory count!

What exactly is Kaiserpunk
Kaiserpunk is, what we call, a Grand city builder. In its heart it’s a production chain city builder combined with elements from grand strategy games. Every move you make and every advancement you achieve is always linked to success and strength of your city. Nothing can be done without a solid industrial base and population in high morale.

Will the game support Cloud Saves?
Yes, it didn't make it in for launch but we will add support for Cloud Saves very soon.

Wasn't the game supposed to support Turkish?
Yes, we ran into translation issues but will add Turkish language support as soon as possible.

Will the game release for consoles (or other platforms)?
Right now we're focused on PC Steam, but we are actively considering further platforms. Follow our channels for any updates on new platforms.

How many cities do I build?
You build only one city to the full “city builder” extent. It will eventually become a huge industrial juggernaut capable of supporting your global endeavours. In other regions you seize control over you don’t build new cities to this level of detailed management, but you do have to select, build and maintain so called “region upgrades”. They determine the best way you can utilize newly conquered territory.
Can I conquer the world in Kaiserpunk
Yes you can. Full global conquest is one of the paths to victory. Not the only one, and definitely not the easiest one, but surely a possibility. Bare in mind that, if you go down the total war path, other factions will take notice and will respond. No one wants to go down silently, right?

Can I continue same game from Tutorial onwards
No. Tutorials are separate scenarios designed to teach you all of the basic mechanics in the game. How to build, organize and manage your city. Then how to create military units, assemble armies and make impact on global map. Sections of the Tutorial are fast forwarded and preset to get you in touch with features appearing in later stages of the game. After you conclude the Tutorials, you’ll need to start a new game and master the game in your own desired pace.

How to best start
The key is not to rush ahead. Your city stands the best chance if it is well optimized and organized. You’ll need to build houses for basic citizen class first (laborers). Get them into your city, make sure their needs are met and they will respond in decent amount of taxes being paid to your treasury. The happier they are the more taxes they will generate. Same goes for each higher class workers you’ll need later in game. They can generate huge income if they are numerous and happy. But be careful not to get ahead of yourself here – if you bring too many workers before your production chains actually need them, you’ll get high unemployment which will wreak havoc to your morale and chances of riots erupting.
Next important thing in early game is focus at optimizing everything. At the start, you don’t have many workers or resources or money. So make sure you use what you have to the maximum potential. You can purchase upgrades for your buildings that increase production, decrease needed production resources, lower the required workforce for productions and some other things. Essentially, you’ll produce more with less and without necessity to immediately line up multiple buildings for the same production chain. And if you add multiple upgrades, difference can be significant.
Additionally, in early game you can salvage numerous old buildings scattered through the entire map. Salvaging will require certain number of workers, but will yield many resources you’ll likely lack in the beginning.

Logic of creating armies
Army units and armies are also linked to basic production chains loop. To create army you need to train certain units. First build a military base and train units there. To train these units you’ll need some equipment first. For example, if you wish to train a tank unit, you’ll need personel, tanks and supplies. Tanks are first produced in vehicle factory and then used as any other resource. Personel is pulled from available population pool, and supplies are produced as any other resource. The exception is that supplies are something future army will use constantly, so that needs to remain in steady supply even after army is created.
Once you have all the manpower and equipment to create units – create them in military base, then deploy them to world map and your conquest can start. Every military base can create one army and all units created in that military base will be addede to that army. If you want more armies, build more military bases.
Navy is created in the same manner but in navy base. Same goes for Airforce in Airbases.

Do I need other territories?
Short answer would be yes. You don’t need to conquer them if you don’t want to, but resources available in your home territory alone won’t be enough to assert a global domination. You need to get in touch with other regions at some point, be it via military conflict, trade deals, or assimilation in any other way.

Trading
You can trade in a few ways: First is via local smugglers in Market. Second is larger quantities in trade ports. Third is inter-faction trade deals through diplomacy options.
How to trade exactly? You select a resource to trade, then set the quantity below – that quantity indicates the amount of that resource you want to have at all times in your depots. Excess will be sold, or missing quantity will be bought. If you wish to prevent all selling of that resource click the “lock selling” button. Same is with buying.
One note here – trading through trade deals can have geopolitical implications so be careful there. If you make a trade deal supplying armament shipments for someone… that can change your stance with other factions!

Do my resource deposits run out of resources?
Yes they do. Once they are depleted, you’ll still get some resources from there, but very small percentage. But by the time that happens, you’ll likely already be in a position to secure the difference through trading and trade deals.

What are possible hazards within my city?
Fires can happen and blaze can spread and damage portions of your city. Build firestations to lower the risk and handle the damage if it still happens.
Riots can happen if some of your citizen classes are unhappy for some reason. If not managed they will spread and cause damage, or even topple your government if left unmanaged for a long time. Build police stations, courthouses and prisons to tackle this.

Building bridges and tunnels
Bridges and tunnels will automatically extend when you’re building roads and you get to an obstacle such as bodies of water or elevations.

Can I build over water?
Yes. Simply use quays to extend the buildable terrain, then build upon then as usual.
Heritages
Since you don’t have specific nations to start the game with, you can choose heritages. They bring certain visual identity as well as special benefits and downsides. Your option is to either pursue the recreation of some nation that existed in real world, or you can create an entirely new entity.

Is there politics in Kaiserpunk?
Yes. As you progress through development stages, you’ll level up your Town Center. Upon each level up, you’ll get to choose a certain policy. Over time these policies will structure the social and political fabric of your society, pushing it either to the left or to the right part of the spectre.
You can change direction of your policies at any time, but you’ll have to go through a period of anarchy to do that.

Multiplayer
Kaiserpunk does not have a multiplayer component.

How do I cross oceans
You’ll need to build a fleet of ships, then add an upgrade that they can either carry airforce units, or land units. Then move your units to that navy army and sail away.

Logistics and supply
Every army needs a steady supply line to remain effective. Without it, army will degrade and eventually become useless, no matter how well equipped it is. Supply lines extend from your home territory and could become stretched and very vulnerable at some point. To counter that, build outposts in conquered regions, keep them well supplied, and they will be new, closer restock points for your armies.

Region stability
To avoid problems with conquered territories, make sure stability doesn’t fall too far. If it does, region will rebel or side with your enemy. In region panel you can follow everything that impacts region stability or instability at any given moment.

Do we have real time combat in Kaiserpunk?
No. Kaiserpunk is mainly city builder with extended grand strategy elements. Warfare and combat is managed from organizational and “high” level strategic perspective. You’re a supreme commander in charge or making sure your economy and military is ready for war, not a field commander controlling individual units.

Stories in Kaiserpunk
Throughout the course of game, all sorts of stories and events will happen. You’ll need to choose how to resolve these situations, but beware – many of these stories will develop into something large and impactful. Be careful how you manage them, even seemingly unimportant events can spiral into something much bigger down the road.

Replayability
If you take into account how many things you can set up when starting the game, where you can start from in the world, and how many variations in choices you can make when encountering stories… game really offers a huge variety of ways to play.
